*Job description*The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval Authority and is an Executive agency of the Department for Transport with over 30 years' experience supporting industry by providing internationally recognised testing and certification for vehicles, their systems, and components. The Agency headquarters are located in Bristol with further UK offices on the HORIBA MIRA proving ground in the Midlands, and on the UTAC-Millbrook Proving Ground in Bedfordshire.


Although VCA is one agency, operationally it has two separate responsibilities split between the Type Approval Authority and the Technical Service.

Graduate engineers will be offered positions as a graduate in either side of the Agency.

Below you will find a detailed overview of each division and the areas of the agency they are responsible for:

*Technical Service*International Operations witness tests and process the documentation for a range of systems and component approvals that can then be used to create Whole Vehicle Type Approvals. They work with all areas of transport including, car, truck, bus, motorcycle and agricultural manufacturers, witnessing and performing tests to a range of internationally recognised standards. The work entails testing to national and international standards, ensuring that vehicles and components meet the safety and environmental standards that the United Kingdom and wider international markets expect. The work is both demanding and exciting and In this area engineers will work with some of the most advanced manufacturers in the automotive sector worldwide.

*Type Approval Authority*The Propulsion Technologies Group (PTG), which focuses on environmental standards for propulsion systems, as well as requirements for new propulsion technologies, including electrification, alternative fuels and eco-innovations. The role of PTG is principally split across two key areas; Firstly, the technical support and guidance/interpretation of current and future environmental legislation to the DfT, industry, and the public; Secondly, operational support to PTG's emissions test programmes for the Market Surveillance Unit (MSU) and In-Service Conformity (ISC).


The Conformity of Production (CoP) department whose role within the Agency is to undertake technical audits of automotive manufacturer's production facilities and their controls to ensure that Type Approval standards are maintained.

This role will have the privilege of working directly with global OEMs, getting to see their production sites first-hand. The global nature of the automotive sector will mean there is a significant opportunity for travel internationally.

You will have a willingness to travel with this role, throughout the UK and overseas.

*Licences*Full UK Driving Licence

*Qualifications*Educated to degree level in a mechanical / automotive orientated discipline (for example, mechanical, automotive or manufacturing engineering), through a higher education programme that is accredited by the IMechE.

*Security*People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.
