    ABOUT YOU

    Looking to be the team leader for an experienced team of Failure Investigation engineers based within our business at Trafford Park, Manchester, the candidate will be looking to grow their own career through supporting the team, and its consultancy and project opportunities, while still being able to maintain their own professional interest through direct work on select projects . The role will be mix of a technical consultancy and failure investigation work and may involve interaction on projects with the wider Corrosion Consultancy and Integrity team as well as and field work opportunities.

    The role would ideally suit candidates already conducting failure investigations and consultancy with experience across a wide range of sectors/industries. While current line management experience is not specifically required for the role, experience of project management of teams, or similar, would be beneficial.

    Required skills and experience:
    • A higher degree or professional qualification in a related scientific or engineering discipline with a large element of relevant knowledge of and experience in a key technical area for the Intertek CAPCIS business.
    • Additionally, significant relevant knowledge and experience of the Failure Investigation discipline for the Intertek CAPCIS business.
    • Demonstrable ability to develop new opportunities for Intertek CAPCIS.
    • Previous similar experience of supervising workload and staff.
    • A track record of mentoring or staff development
    • Proven ability to always interact with clients and colleagues at all levels in a professional manner.
    • Communication skills to lead, motivate and develop client relationships and coordinate work, with the ability to adapt communication style to audience.
    • Strong organisational and time management skills.
    • Willing to be "hands on" working at all levels.
    • A positive attitude.
    • Good problem identification and solving skills.
    • Highly proficient in computer programs such as MS Office.
    • Flexible approach to working hours.
    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    The Team Leader is responsible for:
    • Planning and co-ordinating the activities of a Technical Resource Team, to ensure optimum achievement of operational targets in the most cost-effective manner, consistent with safe operating practices.
    • Overall responsibility for the technical operation, management of staff and administrative aspects of the Team in addition assisting the Group Manger with budgetary and forecasting aspects for the Team.
    • Developing the structure and ability of the team through performance review, development planning and identification of suitable training where required.
    • Providing leadership to the Team in all aspects of quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) and for ensuring that the requirements of external accreditation, such as ISO 9001 and others, as applicable, are met, whilst providing a service to meet customers' needs.
    Key General activities:
    • Undertake project management responsibility for a variety of failure investigation projects.
    • Prepare estimates and proposals for negotiations with client companies, suppliers and others. Develop project plans, determining priorities and supervising project staff (where applicable).
    • "Hands-on" preparation and examination of samples and components submitted to the Failure Investigation group laboratory, using various metallurgical and microscopy methodologies.
    • Analyze and interpret metallurgical, microscopic, and analytical information pertinent to the progress of assignments and the preparation of client reports.
    • Produce clear and concise technical reports and answer client queries on those reports in a satisfactory and professional manner.
    • The role requires confidence and the ability to give technical presentations to forums, seminars, conferences etc, and to Intertek CAPCIS clients and potential customers as the need arises.
    • Manage project budgets, time allocation and billing of assigned projects, resolving any issues arising that could impact profitability and/or client expectations.
    • Actively seek to generate additional business for the FI Team, or other teams within Intertek CAPCIS, as opportunity arises.
