Here at ELHT Pharmacy, we have a proven track record on driving improvements in medicines management and this role will lead the provision of high quality clinical pharmacy services and ensure robust medicines governance is embedded across the organisation for the benefit of our patients.

- support the Clinical Director of Pharmacy in the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient patient centered pharmacy service to the Trust
- deputise for the Clinical Director of Pharmacy as delegated and as designated in their absence
- be responsible for leading all elements of medicine and pharmaceutical clinical governance, ensuring that policies and procedures for all aspects of medicine use are developed to the highest quality and that all relevant standards, professional, statutory and operational are met
- be responsible for establishing and developing the governance and medicines risk management agenda locally
- be responsible for leading, developing and evaluating the medicines information and clinical pharmacy service from all areas of the Pharmacy department in accordance with objectives set with the Clinical Director of Pharmacy
- be the professional lead for issues associated with investigating medication incidents and reducing risks from unintended events
- lead the development of the clinical pharmacy teams to complement and facilitate multidisciplinary working
- act as a role model in the field of clinical pharmacy practice and provide a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service in line with corporate objectives and government initiatives
- manage the team of Specialist Pharmacists and other pharmacists involved in the delivery of the clinical pharmacy service and medicines risk management

Main Duties

Leadership, Service Policy, Planning, and Evaluation

Deputises for the Clinical Director of Pharmacy as delegated and/or as designated in their absence and appropriately represent the department at relevant meetings

Support the Clinical Director of Pharmacy in the strategic management of pharmacy services, including strategy development, service planning, budgeting and financial management to ensure the development of a progressive service

To lead and develop the Non Medical Prescribing Lead to ensure the provision of high quality prescribing support across the organisation to meet legislative and national standards

To lead and develop the Senior Pharmacists - in clinical services and training and education to ensure the provision of a high quality clinical pharmacy service

To lead and develop, in conjunction with the Senior Pharmacists, the Antibiotic Usage pharmacist in order to promote the safe, economic and effective use of antimicrobial agents; including the managed entry of new agents throughout the Trust

Responsible for planning, prioritising, delivery and development of the quality of the pharmacy clinical service, medicines risk management and drug financial management service delivered across the Trust

Provide clinical leadership to the Trust and pharmacy staff on a complex range of pharmacy support issues utilising extensive experience and knowledge

Responsible for planning staffing requirements and drawing up the workforce plan for clinical services

Lead and develop the Clinical Pharmacy Services for patients seen in ELHT in accordance with the priorities set by the postholder and the Clinical Director of Pharmacy in order to ensure, safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of medicines and taking into account national and corporate priorities

Responsible for monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of the clinical pharmacy services in order to ensure clinically effective and cost efficient use of medicines

Act as a clinical pharmacy role model and demonstrate the ability to provide safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of medicines

Promote continued development of extended roles for clinical pharmacists and clinical pharmacy technicians in line with agreed departmental objectives

Identify opportunities and pursues funding for further developments in clinical pharmacy services. This will involve close working with senior clinical and managerial staff

Contribute fully to the strategic management and planning of the pharmacy service

Support the Clinical Director of Pharmacy and meet targets that
