    Are you based in Devon and interested in contributing to the oversight of policing in the county?

    We are seeking a public member to join the Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel as an independent representative. This Panel plays a crucial role in evaluating the performance of the elected Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner, ensuring transparency in policing across the region. Independent members work alongside Councillors from Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly.

    About the position:

    Being a Panel member is both significant and fulfilling. The Commissioner must consult with the Panel regarding her strategies, budget, Council Tax for policing, senior personnel appointments within her office, and the Chief Constable.

    Meetings are held during the day, currently located in Plymouth. Panel members can claim reasonable travel expenses, receive induction, and training. Panel sessions are webcasted, and interested applicants may explore recordings of past meetings.

    According to the regulations, co-opted Panel members must not be:

    • The Police and Crime Commissioner or associated staff
    • An active Police Officer
    • A civilian staff member of the Police
    • A member of Parliament, National Assembly for Wales, or Scottish Parliament
    • An elected Council Member from Devon, Cornwall, or the Isles of Scilly
    • Individuals not residing or working in Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, or Devon
