    We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Component Requirements Standardisation Engineer to be involved in an industry-leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

    Job Purpose:

    The Component Requirements Standardisation Engineer will be responsible for ensuring appropriate requirements are placed on components.

    Systems engineering techniques are used to manage requirements, and setting the right requirements is fundamental to the success of Rolls-Royce SMR.


    You will ensure the best requirements are in place through a technical understanding of component design and interfacing with functional areas (such as human factors, manufacturing, integrated product support, materials).

    Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in

    The Role:


    Deliver a complete and coherent set of technical requirements to component designs.

    Act as a single point of contact for component design to interface with other teams and functions.

    Identify areas for improvement in the processes and tools to ensure an optimal approach to requirements management.

    Generate creative solutions to challenges, based on a balance and trade off the project drivers, technical and non-technical requirements.


    The cross-component team, in which this role will sit, is a pivotal part of the product development, ensuring consistency, standardisation and efficiency across all product development programmes.

    Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities in a proactive manner.

    Relevant Quantifiable Measures (Any relevant facts & figures relating to the job e.g. budget, finance dimensions number of direct reports, number of indirect reports)


    The role will be embedded in the components team which will grow through 2024 and 2025 to from 48 to approximately 130 people.

    The candidate will be embedded in teams leading the product development for the SMR, internally and in the global supply chain.

    They will also work at ensuring the design gains regulatory approval through the GDA process.
    The role will see product development go through the entire product lifecycle from design into manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operation which provides a unique experience in the Nuclear Industry

    The Key Selection Criteria:
    Mechanical Engineering and Component Design:

    Hold a high-level understanding of the design of mechanical components such as pressure vessels, tanks, pumps or valves.
    Have the ability to review and interpret design codes and standards.
    Understand opportunities for standardisation at all levels of component specification and design.

    Management System Processes and Systems Engineering:

    An experience of the use of systems engineering tools and techniques for applications such as requirements management, structured decision making and stakeholder engagement.

    Able to write accurate and verifiable requirements concisely.
    Interest and capability of following and defining processes and ways of working.

    Communication:


    Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven capability to convey complex technical issues to a range of audiences, including senior management.

    Ability to forge relationships with peers.
    Ability to produce and deliver presentations to communicate ideas.
    Experience facilitating technical discussions with third parties (e.g. customers, suppliers, and regulators).


    Qualifications & Training:
    BEng or MEng in process, mechanical or chemical engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
    Experience within the nuclear industry, and specifically reactor components, is preferred.
    Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
    Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job.

    Pay and Benefits

    We anticipate paying a salary of between £40,000-£50,000 plus:
    • Bonus
    • Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
    Benefits Allowance - £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
    Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
    Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
    Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
    Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
