    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and pro-active receptionist to join the team based in Rowhedge and University of Essex Medical Practice. This role will be for maternity cover to start in June, and it will be for 15 hrs per week.

    Interviews will be carried out for successful applicants on receipt of application, and we reserve the right to retract the advert if a suitable person is found before the end date.

    Main duties of the job

    Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • booking appointments,
  • greeting patients,
  • answering queries from patients and outside agencies and/or signposting to appropriate members of staff,
  • updating patient records,
  • processing correspondence and liaising with patients using various types of communication methods,
  • excellent communication skills,
  • good understanding of IT
  • ideally, experience of a busy reception/public environment.
  • You will also need to have flexibility to cover other shifts. Experience of working in general practice will be an advantage but training will be given to a suitable candidate.

    The Colte Partnership is a GP super-partnership, formed in June 2017. It brought together 9 local GP surgeries across Colchester and Tendring, serving approx. 98,000 patients. With the combined workforce, skills and knowledge, we are in a unique position to assist our patients across the county.

    As well as general practice, we offer extended access appointments to enable all of our patients to access medical care at evening and weekends; we work collaboratively with external agencies to provide in home services and social prescribing; we are working to be at the forefront of clinical research; and have many more exciting ventures on the horizon.

    We also work as three collaborative primary care networks (PCNs) which span across Colchester and Tendring:

  • Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, Riverside Medical Centre & Ardleigh Surgery
  • Mersea Island Medical Practice, Tiptree Medical Centre & Rowhedge Medical Centre
  • Walton Medical Centre, Colne Medical Centre & Wivenhoe Medical Centre
  • There is a wide socio-economic and demographic served within this area which will provide an interesting and varied case mix. You will be joining an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators. You will be well supported with on-going professional development (training support, CPD and peer support). The role will contribute to the improving quality of care of our patients across the network of practices.

  • Good standard of education including Maths and English;
  • Experience of working and providing customer services;
  • Strong IT skills and be able to use computer based systems;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral;
  • Good social skills;
  • Friendly and positive approach towards patients and other visitors either in person or over the telephone.
  • Desirable

  • Ideally you will have reception experience and it would be beneficial if you have experience working within primary care;
  • Experience of EMIS would be desirable, however full training will be given to a suitable candidate.
