    Job summary

    Medical Engineering at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has an opening for a Band 5 Technologist. The role involves managing medical devices for SaTH and other bodies in Shropshire. While primarily based at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, flexibility to work at other sites is expected.

    The responsibilities include supporting medical devices throughout their lifecycle, from acceptance to disposal. The ideal candidate should be a skilled engineer educated to HNC level, with experience in working independently on electrical, electronic, or mechanical equipment. Continuous professional development is encouraged through training courses.

    Excellent communication skills are essential as the role requires collaboration with healthcare professionals in clinical settings.

    Main duties of the job

    Responsibilities include commissioning, maintenance, and repair of patient connected medical devices in workshop and clinical environments. Working in line with ISO:9001 and ISO:13485 quality systems is a key part of the role.

    About us

    Medical Engineering oversees around 32,000 medical devices, a significant portion belonging to SATH. The department serves external contracts and private customers as well. The team is divided between The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, with maintenance teams at both locations. Additionally, the department provides service and maintenance support for the Renal Service in Shropshire.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

    • HNC/HTEC/HND/Foundation Degree in an Engineering Subject or Equivalent work experience. Willingness to work towards HNC.

    Desirable

    • Degree in Engineering or relevant field
    • Membership in a Professional Body
    • Registration as a Clinical Technologist
    • Technical Certificates for Medical Device maintenance

    Experience

    Essential

    • Demonstrated competency in engineering and technology
    • Experience in equipment maintenance and repair

    Skills

    Essential

    • Proficiency in Electronic, Mechanical, or combined skills

    Desirable

    • Core skill certifications
    • Adherence to Quality procedures
    • Continuous Professional Development
    • Familiarity with Medical Device testing procedures
