The jobholder will operate in an extremely complex and heavily regulated environment in the UK.

The model for M&S Bank is unique as M&S Bank operates with M&S as part of a joint venture agreement and shares profit with the M&S business.

It is a business which also reports in its own right directly to the FCA


The MSB Head of Business Management is responsible for monitoring business performance across M&S Bank ensuring business areas are working to plan (cost/income) and where deficiencies occur work with the business areas to take appropriate remedial action and paths to green have been put in place.


The role will require the jobholder to lead oversight of internal and external 3rd party supplier relationships to ensure that the relationships enable the Bank to deliver on its strategic objectives whilst ensuring risks are mitigated.

Risk mitigation will be achieved by ensuring outsourced service provision within the Group, are governed to adhere to key regulatory Group Risk and Group Vendor Management standards.

Based within COO the role is also responsible in providing effective risk management strategies and ensuring internal control frameworks are in place mitigating business, operational, conduct and regulatory risk, for embedding risk culture and management process, including Ring Fenced Banking rule adherence

  • Leads and facilitates annual RFB attestation and provision of evidencing artefacts
  • Has oversight of service metrics and performance across MSB service providers ensuring all remain within appetite or have path to green
  • Chairs Business Performance governance meetings to support rapid decisioning across the Bank
  • Working closely with M&S Bank business areas to shape and facilitate AOP and trading plans across the business
  • Identifying where there is a deviation from plan, and leading discussions and working closely with key stakeholders to agree and drive corrective action
  • Working closely with M&S Bank business areas to identify fate and cost requirements and support driving effective action on cost challenges
  • Facilitate requests for changes to service provision arrangements with M&S Bank, ensuring appropriate governance and stakeholder management
  • Works closely with finance on driving strategic cost initiatives, ensuring areas remain within FRP
  • Maintain effective oversight to ensure Supplier Risk Management Framework and processes are in place and adhered to in accordance with Third Party Risk Management FIM and Regulatory requirements
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Business/user departments, Procurement team(s) and other stakeholders to ensure requirements of VRM are fully understood and monitor compliance with Third Party Risk Management FIM and local VRM procedures
  • Ensure that M&S Bank's relationships with high risk vendors are well managed within agreed risk appetite and do not expose M&S Bank to undue risk
