are seeking to appoint an inspirational HLTA/Level 4 Teaching Assistant for a unique opportunity to contribute to whole school and class-based initiatives in a growing school that received Excellent ratings in 4 out of 5 Estyn Inspection Areas in March 2020.

  • Ysgol Bryn Derw
, across 2 sites, supports the provision of education for 101 children aged from 3 years to 19 years who have been diagnosed with ASD, also present with additional complex needs such as severe learning difficulties or highly challenging behaviour, and require a specialised environment.

  • The school aims to provide the highest possible standards of education and support for all its pupils regardless of their level of educational need, and is equipped with a range of specialised facilities including a Rebound Therapy room, 5 sensory rooms, a Touch Therapy room, 4 soft play rooms, 2 Independent Living Skills rooms and 2 allotment areas.
  • The Governing Body is looking to appoint an HLTA/Level 4 TA to work in a class running group learning in collaboration with the class teacher and provide PPA cover.
  • You will have experience, as a Level 3 or 4 Teaching Assistant, of working with pupils with ASD and a knowledge of strategies to support communication and regulation for people with ASD and of supporting challenging behaviour.
  • All staff at Ysgol Bryn Derw receive a significant CPD offer, recent training has included Team Teach, Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism and PECS. You will be someone who is passionate and highly motivated to achieve the best outcomes for the young people at the school and have the vision to create an outstanding educational environment.   • Complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for groups or short term for whole classes, and monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils' achievement, progress and development.
  • Be responsible for the management and development of a specialist area within the school and/or assist in the management of other teaching assistants, including monitoring of work, appraisal and training.
  • The posts are for 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (termtime). Applicants who wish to work Monday & Tuesday or Monday to Wednesday only will be considered.
