    Senior Commissioning Manager

    About us:

    Global Commissioning Limited is a privately owned consultancy, with our Head Office based in Whitstable, Kent. Specialising in the data centre industry, we offer commissioning management and validation services to project developers and operators, ensuring they receive a full operational and design compliant building at handover.

    We are a growing company, and currently operate in 14 countries across Europe, and have active offices in Germany, Poland, Finland, Italy, and the Netherlands.

    The Role:

    The post holder is responsible for the safe, timely and efficient design, installation and commissioning of MEP systems and IT infrastructure within data centre environments.

    The post holder will be required to manage services both on and off-site, providing line management to MEP Project Managers, MEP Supervisors and various sub-contractors as required.

    Primary Responsibilities: As the Senior Commissioning Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

    • Provide leadership and manage all MEP works to ensure all works are commissioned on time, in full to the correct quality standard
    • Manage teams across multiple projects, comprising of Commissioning Managers, Commissioning Engineers and various sub-contractors as required, ensuring they are trained, competent and motivated to conduct their duties
    • Conduct site surveys across multiple projects as required and feed output into the project team
    • Lead project meetings and produce reports as required
    • Build relationships with clients / contractors as part of the team
    • Lead meetings with designers, specialist contractors and internal teams to review final stage design details ensuring opportunities for value engineering are maximised
    • Review of final designs to ensure compliance to specification and value engineering opportunities are grasped
    • On site review and management of building services installation to ensure contract compliance
    • Ensure correct installation and commissioning of MEP elements ensuring that all work is completed to the relevant professional and statutory standards
    • Drive the design, installation, and commissioning process
    • Manage input into post-installation lessons learned processes focussed on continual improvement of the MEP systems deployed
    • Learn, un-learn and re-learn industry best practice deploying this within the specialist field to ensure we maintain the leading edge in our field
    • Ensure health and safety policy is adhered to at all times

    Managing the below phases of each project:

    Design Phase:

    • Authoring and reviewing the Owner's Project Requirements, Basis of Design, and commissioning documents.
    • Drafting the Commissioning Plan and Programme, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
    • Leading the Commissioning Agent Kick-Off Meeting, facilitating collaboration and understanding among stakeholders.
    • Compiling a comprehensive project directory, ensuring all relevant information is documented and easily accessible.

    Construction Phase:

    • Leading Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Commissioning Workshops, fostering teamwork and efficient execution of commissioning tasks.
    • Attending Factory and Field Witness Tests, overseeing the process, and producing related reports to ensure compliance with project specifications.
    • Developing Commissioning Checklists for electrical, mechanical, monitoring, and safety systems, guaranteeing thorough and systematic assessments.
    • Drafting Level 4 Test Scripts and Site Observation Reports, documenting observations accurately and providing clear action plans.
    • Conducting weekly commissioning and client meetings, maintaining effective communication channels throughout construction.
    • Managing and updating the Commissioning Tracker, ensuring all commissioning activities are tracked and progress is well-monitored.

    Acceptance Phase:

    • Overseeing Level 4 Commissioning across various systems, coordinating with project teams to resolve any issues promptly.
    • Collating and presenting Level 4 Commissioning data and preparing comprehensive reports for project stakeholders.
    • Drafting Level 5 Test Scripts and leading the Pre-Integrated Systems Testing Meeting, ensuring a smooth transition to the final commissioning phase.
    • Coordinating Level 5 Commissioning and producing the preliminary report, highlighting successes, and identifying areas for improvement.

    Handover Phase:

    • Coordinating system training data collection, ensuring end-users receive the necessary training for efficient system operation.
    • Reviewing Operations & Maintenance procedures, validating their completeness and accuracy.
    • Leading the "Lessons Learnt Workshop," facilitating a constructive discussion to identify valuable insights for future projects.
    • Delivering the Final Commissioning Report, summarising the commissioning process and outcomes to support the successful handover of the project.

This is not an exhaustive list, and the post-holder might be expected to undertake any other duties across the wider organisation, commensurate with level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Completion of trade apprenticeship or qualifications – Essential
    • CSCS / Safe Pass / ECS / SMSTS holder – Essential
    • BEng (Hons) in an engineering discipline or equivalent – Desirable

    Specialist Skills and Knowledge:

    • Previous experience of M&E project management - Essential
    • Previous experience of managing a team - Essential
    • Previous experience of commissioning Data Centres - Essential
    • A minimum of 8 years technical experience across the design, build and commissioning of MEP services and relevant professional standards and legislation - Essential
    • Knowledge of the project management process - Essential
    • Able to write detailed, comprehensive commissioning method statements / test scripts, commissioning plans, and commissioning reports - Essential
    • Fully comprehensive across all Microsoft Office applications - Essential
