An organisation that partners with organisations across the UK to help them understand the value of signing the Armed Forces Covenant are looking for an experience Assistant Director of Communications.

They're an organisation that provide support with employmentof reservists, veterans, cadet force, adult volunteers and military spouses and improving fairness for the armed forces community in the consumer market.


Ways in which the organisation supports:

  • employment of reservists and support through flexible HR policies
- employment of regular service personnel at the end of their engagements, in collaboration with the Career Transition Partnership
- employment opportunities for service leavers with more challenging transitions including the wounded, injured and sick
- employment of spouses/civil partners of service personnel
- joint development of skills in areas such as engineering, medical, communications and cyber security
- career opportunities and support for cadet adult instructors
- tackling disadvantages faced by service personnel in the consumer market


The key areas that you will be working within are:

  • Lead on delivery of the organisation's employer engagement communications strategy and plans, liaising with the MODs Directorate of Defence Communications' and the Office of Veterans Affairs on strategies and goals to drive forward the organisation's agendain support of Defence.
  • Own and update the organisation's communications threeyear strategy and annual communications plan
  • Plan and deliver an evaluation approach to organisation's communications, ensuring delivery of the right communications to the right audience at the right time using the appropriate channels
  • Acting as brand guardian; overseeing the consistency and development of corporate messaging, branded materials and communications
  • Oversee the delivery of a wide range of prestigious national events, including the annual Partnering with Defence conference, ERS Gold Awards ceremonies, Reserves Day, Defence Insight Briefing and multiple Armed Forces Covenant signings.
  • Acting as main point of contact for all joint communication activity with the MOD. This will include managing responses to media, public and parliamentary communications functions within agreed timescales, including handling of Freedom of Information requests
  • Liaise with the single Services (Navy, Army, RAF) Engagement teams on a regular basis to ensure joined up strategies and offers
  • Have regular meetings with MOD press office and policy teams keeping them up to date on projects, campaigns and events
  • Identify opportunities for the organisation and the 13 regional Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations (RFCAs) to engage proactively with employers

We 'd like to hear from anyone who has the following skills and experience:

  • Strong background (5+ years) in Marketing and Communications from either the private or public sector.
  • Demonstrable success in developing communications strategies and plans in an environment with both financial and political constraints.
  • Experience of leading the development of integrated communication strategies and
- delivering insight-driven campaigns across a range of marketing communication channels

  • The ability to summarise and simplify complex ideas and information, which may be highly detailed, technical or specialist, for the general reader or target audiences
  • Knowledge of working with a CRM System, preferably Salesforce.
  • Experience of managing small teams and developing a positive, creative and fun working environment.
  • Seeing the big picture: Understand how the strategies and activities of the team create value and meet the diverse needs of all stakeholders
  • Working together: Invest time to develop a common focus and genuine positive team spirit that encourages joined up team work within own team and across other groups
  • Delivering at pace: Act promptly to reassess workloads and priorities and regularly monitor your own and team's work against milestones
