    Job summary

    We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Psychologist / Family Therapist to join us as in a full-time role in our cross county Adult Eating Disorders pathway. This is post was developed at a time when the pathway teams are expanding, both to meet the demands of the service, broaden the clinical expertise in our treatment offer and to support the ongoing alignment of our new model of working cross the county of Suffolk.

    Main duties of the job

    This is an opportunity for you to be part of an established pathway but to have the added benefit of making a significant impact on the shape of the service for the future.

    You will ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of all other psychologists within the pathway. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the team.

    Job responsibilities

    As a major requirement of the job, you will conduct training in specialist psychotherapies for staff as well as offering clinical supervision to all grades of staff. You will support the Service Manager, Clinical Team Manager and the senior clinical team in providing clinical leadership and advice within theeating disorders pathway. This may include offering senior clinical cover for the service, responding to queries or FOI requests, undertaking complaints and serious incident investigations and 1:1 management supervision.

    We have a strong culture of research and a continuous drive for improving quality, which you will be expected to lead on within the service. Youwill be expected to contribute to the running of the service and to lead on specific areas of clinical relevance.

    The post is working from bases in both East and West Suffolk (Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds), although you may be required to attend other sites as part of your role.

    There will be the expectation to weigh and take blood pressure as part of treatment and you will receive the appropriate level of training in this which willinclude when to report on to other colleagues for further action.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or it's equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
  • Further post-qualification, post-graduate training in one or more specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity
  • Teaching, training and delivering clinical supervision
  • Relevant experience in service area
  • Desirable

  • Representing psychology within MDT setting(clinical and organisational contexts).
  • Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post.
  • Skills

    Essential

  • Assessment, evaluation and management of risk associated with mental ill health and related psychopathology
  • Well developed skills in the ability to effectively communicate complex, highly technical and clinically highly sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Desirable

  • High level knowledge in the assessment and evaluation of psychological therapies
  • Knowledge

    Essential

  • Well developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups ( personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities etc.)
  • Providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

  • Legislation and its implication for clinical practice and the appropriate management of people presenting with mental health problems
