Position:


This is an intern opportunity for an enthusiastic STEM student to work alongside our dynamic Credit Risk Analytics, Risk Reporting, Model Validation and Credit Risk Modelling teams.

These are 12 months' fixed term placements starting in July and August 2024, that would suit a recent graduate or sandwich course student who wants to gain experience of data science in the financial services industry.


Our mission is to use data to drive effective decision-making across the bank, so we are looking for someone with strong analytical skills and a questioning mind.

We are organised in small teams where every member of the team has a key role to play and ample opportunity to learn about the different areas of credit risk.

We are seeking a good problem solver with a keen interest in analytics who wants to learn about credit risk by getting their hands dirty.

A strong desire to learn and improve is more important than previous credit risk experience.


Requirements:


Qualifications/Experience

  • Strong academic background, on track for a good degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Exceptional attention to detail, rigour and accuracy
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
  • Excellent analytical abilities, including some experience of any programming language
  • Excellent written and presentational skills
  • Experience using SAS is desirable. Willingness to learn SAS is essential
  • Understanding or experience of credit risk is also desirable though not essential.
  • Basic understanding of economics and banking is desirable though not essential.

Other information:

The Credit Risk Intern will have the opportunity to work on projects with one or more of the following teams:

The Credit Risk Analytics team designs and executes bespoke analyses that enable the bank to use data to answer the important questions about its customers and products.

A typical project might be to analyse credit bureau data to identify the customers who are most likely to have payment difficulties in the near future.


The Risk Reporting team produces a number of key datasets and reports that the bank and its regulators and shareholders rely on to understand the bank's performance.

A typical project involves running a monthly report by following the written procedures, identifying opportunities to improve the process and then implementing those improvements.


The Model Validation team ensures that the bank's models are fit for purpose by critically examining a model's inputs, design and performance.
