The Arts in Health team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are looking for a new Arts Activities Officer.


The role will involve supervising a team of volunteers to deliver creative sessions to patients to improve their experience of being in hospital and contribute to their recovery.

The post-holder will be responsible for scheduling activity sessions and developing activities.


We are looking for an energetic and creative individual who is well organised and has the ability to support and supervise volunteers.

The role will be a busy one with a team of around 40 volunteers and activity sessions being run currently across around 40 wards and departments.

You need to be passionate, dynamic, highly motivated and a great team player. You will have experience of delivering art workshops and working with volunteers.

You need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships internally and externally as well as excellent IT and administrative skills.


The Arts in Health programme works to improve the health care environment for patients, visitors and staff through the use of all forms of visual and performing arts.

  • To plan, deliver and expand arts activity workshop provision
  • Ensure the arts workshops are innovative and responsive to service need
  • Support a team of volunteers to support arts activity in the Trust
  • Assist the Arts Coordinators on occasion.
  • Solely responsible for developing a schedule of workshops across the hospitals.
  • Where there are concerns or complaints, either from or about a volunteer, manage these sensitively and follow the Volunteer Problem Solving procedure to find adequate resolution
  • Work with the Trust's Voluntary Services team to recruit, train and support a group of volunteer

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of [12 months] due to the post being externally funded.

The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
