We are seeking a confident Band 4 Mental Health Act Administrator to work at Priority House, Maidstone for 20 hours a week.

Working days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.


The post holder should have a good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, good computer skills as well as good communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise their workload and work to time scales.


To support the Mental Health Act Co-ordinator in providing a high quality administrative service to meet the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007) and to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Mental Health Act Administration Service for the Trust.

The role requires attention to detail and excellent time management skills.

The post holder will be required to progress matters in an efficient way so that statutory time limits and Trust deadlines are met.


The post holder must be able to work well with third parties as well as be competent with regards to the Trust's IT systems.

JOB PURPOSE:


  • To support the Mental Health Act Administration Manager in providing a high quality administrative service to meet the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007) and to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Mental Health Act Administration Service for the Trust.

KEY RESULT AREAS:


  • Receive and scrutinise statutory documentation and ensuring that errors are rectified within the legal timescale.
  • Provide information to patients and nearest relatives under Section 132 of the Mental Health Act 198
  • To maintain registers and an effective and up to date database of statutory deadlines.
  • To send letters to patients following detention/discharge and to Nearest Relatives where appropriate.
  • To enter Mental Health Act information on Rio and upload documentation as required.
  • Ensure that professionals are informed of legal requirements relating to detained patients, i.e. renewal of sections, consent to treatment etc.
  • To assist with the coordination of Mental Health Tribunals and Associate Hospital Manager Reviews, including notifying all relevant parties, obtaining reports, confirming hearing dates and venues and processing the appropriate documentation in line with the MHA Code of Practice and Trust policies, procedures and timescales.
  • Provide advice and, when required, training on various aspects of the Mental Health Act, particularly scrutiny of documentation, to ward staff and participate in planned training events with colleagues.
  • To assist with MHA scrutiny visits.
  • To liaise with various external bodies as necessary including Social Services, Care Quality Commission and Mental Health Tribunal.
  • To be flexible to provide support to colleagues in other areas as required.
  • To maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Code of Practice
  • English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
  • Excellent negotiation and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with people with tact and diplomacy
  • Experience of computer based packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Effectively manage own time and resources

RESPONSIBILITY:


  • To work at all times, within the confines of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Trust policies.
  • To prioritise workload to meet constantly changing demands.
  • To be able to work with mínimal supervision whilst also being able to work well as part of a team.

ENVIRONMENT:


  • Predominantly the postholder will be working within an office environment in Dartford. However, the postholder will be required to visit inpatient wards and possibly travel between the various Mental Health Act Team offices, these being Canterbury, Maidstone and Dartford if the need arises for cover.
