    Introduction

    The Customer Experience and Service Delivery team aims to deliver a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for Members, their staff and staff of the House to work in; as well as providing a welcoming and functional environment for all visitors to the House of Commons.

    Catering Services sits within the Customer Experience and Service Delivery team and aims to deliver the best quality service with an enthusiastic and professional team for the benefit of all our customers. We are responsible for the efficient operation of the House of Commons catering facilities within the agreed financial framework.

    The Role

    To manage or assist senior kitchen management in the running of the kitchens within the Catering Services. Responsible for the efficient and effective running of a designated kitchen or kitchen area to including the planning, preparation, production and service of all menu and related items and the management or supervision and training of all employees in their team.

    Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Planning menus or assisting with the senior chef in menu planning in line with seasonal ingredients, industry trends, customer requirements.
  • Delegating workload appropriately and fairly and ensures that tasks are carried out correctly and successfully. This will include active participation by the jobholder to demonstrate or ensure required standards are met.
  • Inspecting kitchen areas, storage areas and the general condition of production areas at the start of the shift, during and at the close of business. Particular attention must be paid to allergen & labelling procedures, temperature control of food, cross contamination hazards, unsafe equipment, and fire prevention.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is kept in good order and stored away safely and securely.
  • Skills and Experience

    To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Must have relevant catering qualifications i.e. City and Guilds 706:1&2 or NVQ level 1,2&3 or equivalent qualification(s), Accredited food hygiene qualifications.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good cooking skills, knowledge of food and successfully working in all areas of the kitchen in a high volume, multi-outlet, high quality venue.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills that are both structured and summarises information to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience.
  • People management skills. Experience of managing, motivating, and developing kitchen staff giving feedback and supporting development.
  • Must be able to demonstrate culinary knowledge and have experience of menu and dish development, industry trends and initiatives.
  • Must have good IT Literacy and numeracy skills.
