You will be employed and line managed by North West London Pathology and will work across the following networks:

  • North West London Pathology (London 1 network
  • comprising of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster Foundation NHS Trust, Hillingdon Foundation NHS Trust)
  • Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services (South 5 Network comprising Ashford & St. Peter's, Frimley Health, Royal Berkshire and Royal Surrey Hospitals HS Foundation Trust)
  • Promote and increase access and uptake of clinical progression routes, including STP, HSST and also histopathology advance practice qualifications.
  • Facilitated network collaboration and sharing of information resulting in establishment of groups that take workforce strategies and projects forward.


You will also have the opportunity to join the Practice Educator Fellowship Development Program which is designed to create pathology Practice Educators as regional leaders to support staff development at regional level, including the development of work-based learning, ensuring we can support the workforce and learners' needs at a network and regional level.

Typically, this role will suit clinical/scientific laboratory educators with experience of senior management together with clinical scientific laboratory experience.


The Pathology Practice Educator is a key role in the development and implementation of integrated workforce strategies for the non-medical Pathology workforce across two Pathology Networks.


To work alongside existing laboratory managers and training leads to mentor and rapidly increase the skills of Biomedical science graduates, school leavers and Healthcare sciences students to produce additional scientific and support workforce for hospital pathology laboratories.

The role will support the pathology workforce strategies of two large pathology networks; focusing on leading and coordinating complex change to address recruitment, training and retention challenges within an evolving pathology workforce.

The role will form part of a regional resource working closely with other pathology practice educators, NHSE (both national and regional) and across other pathology networks.

The post holder will ensure that both networks have visibility of updates and progress.
