VolkerRail are looking to recruit a Plant Coordinator to join our Major Projects team, working as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade East Alliance.

The position is based at the project hub at Gascoigne Wood (LS25 6JE) with travel across multiple sites between Leeds and York situated less than 1 hours travel from either end of the project.


The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North's great cities.

Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.

The TRU East project is broken down into multiple overlapping projects. Project E1 which is currently in build and planned to complete in December 2024. With the remaining projects E2,3,4 and Shipley planned to complete in 2028.

The project works include full new electrification between Leeds and York and include significant and complex renewals works at Neville Hill and Church Fenton.

The works also include a new depot at Shipley, and line speed enhancement and Journey time improvement works along the route between Leeds and York.

The role of Plant Coordinator works on behalf of the TRU East Alliance.

The role is responsible for the procurement of externally sourced plant and equipment, delivering best in class for quality and value.

The role ensures the maximum utilisation of plant & equipment by monitoring and off hiring equipment when more cost-effective options become available.

Liaising regularly with the internal and external supply chain, the role builds and maintains positive relationships and ensures best Quality, Performance and Delivery is achieved for the Alliance.


Key accountabilities:


Other duties will include:

  • Arrange the hire of all internal/ external plant as required by the contract.
  • Accurately input hired plant into system.
  • Check/ file delivery tickets, collection notes and original test certificates.
  • Complete off hire sheets weekly and file/record.
  • Ensure the correct level of service is being given from suppliers; notify plant hire if a supplier is not performing to the required standard.
  • Keep the plant tracker uptodate.
  • Deal with any plant queries and pass on to the relevant managers for signature.
  • Record all costs of all repairs, losses, and damages.
  • Ensure that POS Rep's have been requested to cover the works.
  • Regular plant audits to be carried out.
  • Report and complete any paperwork for thefts/loss or damage of plant items.
  • Ensure compliance with all documents, including procedures.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required e.g.
  • ALO Planners Role.
  • Lift plans as per requirements for NOP.
  • Liaise with Logistics coordinator / depot manager around deliveries and collection of plant.
  • Produce POP / POS Plans as required.

Skills & experience:


  • Previous and demonstrable experience within a similar role in rail or construction industry
  • Sentinel Lift Planner
  • ALO Planner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
  • Experience in delivering to agreed timescales and standards
  • Ability to influence and negotiate at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and able to adapt methods and styles when required
  • Must have full UK driving licence
  • Be flexible in your approach and willing to work nights, weekends and bank holidays
