What you'll do
The Rotating Machine Fitter -Tester will be responsible for installing, conducting and delivering tests to fulfil the test plan.

This would entail having a detailed understanding of rig preparation, Unit under test (UUT) installation and testing.

Expectation would be to move across different areas and test beds based on labour and project requirement.

You will understand the safety precautions required when undertaking tasks within the operational environment.

You will be required to demonstrate safe working practices throughout in line with the company's 'Destination Zero' policies and will understand the responsibility you owe to yourself and to others in the workplace.

Current test disciplines include, but are not limited to Durability, Warranty, Certification, Calibration, Research, Performance and Economy.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Operation of the test cell under manual and automated conditions
  • Servicing and repairs of Unit under test
  • Accurate, repeatable instrumentation of Unit under test where required
  • Fitment of Rig onto test cell in a safe and repeatable manner
  • Reporting of facility utilisation
  • Analysis, reporting and rectification of test results
  • Application of appropriate Health and Safety measurements
  • 5s, TPM and housekeeping within the test facility
  • Aid in defining root cause and countermeasure activities
  • Standard problem definition
  • Facilitate continuous improvement and learning across all functional areas through the training and communication of quality initiatives
  • Take part in the development and delivery of specific Quality training
  • Ensure internal and external audit compliance to standards including ISO 4500
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

What you'll need

Essential:


  • An indentured apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 vocational qualification in Mechanical or Motor Vehicle Engineering and 3 years relevant technical experience
  • Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency
  • Excellent knowledge of motor vehicle technology with an uptodate knowledge of vehicle development, especially new engine types and electronics
  • Strong, practical skills with good manual dexterity
  • Ability to follow written and spoken instruction and interface well with customers
  • Ability to work quickly and pay attention to detail

Desirable:


  • Experience of operating a modern automated test cell.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of working on prototype engines
  • Knowledge and experience of using test cell instrumentation and external measurement devices
  • Background in quality standards and their importance
  • Knowledge of an engine powertrain test control system and ancillary equipment such as combustion and emissions measurement.
  • Ability to use engine/ transmission calibration tools and diagnostic software.
  • Knowledge of company Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and SDS
  • A full UK driving licence with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification and 2 years accidentfree record.
