We are currently looking to recruit a Health Care Assistant (HCA) to join our busy allebone/stroke ward at Northampton General Hospital.


Do you have a minimum of six months experience in the last 12 months, working in a role where you provide physical care to others? Have you been involved in care of patients who have experienced stroke ?Are you passionate about moving your career forward; then we would really like to hear from you.


Allebone wardis a specialised unit designed to treat people with who are in the rehabilitation part of their stroke diagnosis We are looking for individuals who are currently working as HCA's and inspire to making a positive contribution and have the desire to care for our patients to the highest standards and to treat our patients with the dignity and respect they deserve.


To work as an effective member of the team, providing care for patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse.

Promote good communication that supports the dignity and care of the patients. Assist in maintaining a safe working environment and the provision of care.

At all times adhere to statutory, mandatory, directorate guidance and the Trust's Health Care Assistants Code of Conduct.


The role will provide you with an excellent development opportunity and role specific training will be provided, which will be supported by a competency package and mentorship.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the provision of nursing care under the supervision of a qualified nurse in relation to:
Corporate Responsibilities

Provide clear and concise written documentation as per Trust guidance.

Complete data inputting as required

Supporting Clinical Excellence

Have the ability and knowledge to deal with an emergency situation.

Report any concerns / incidents relating to patient health, safety of the environment to an assistant practitioner or qualified nurse

Supporting Patient Excellence

Assisting patients in all aspects of their activities of daily living including personal hygiene needs.


Meeting the patients nutritional needs including supporting patients at meal times, completion of fluid balance charts, food charts and reporting any concerns to the qualified nurse.


Assist patients in meeting their continence needs, including taking them to the toilet, providing a commode, monitoring urine and bowel movements.

Reporting any abnormalities to an assistant practitioner or qualified nurse


Take and record vital signs as requested, including temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, oxygen saturation and Early Warning Score (EWS) and to report any findings/abnormalities to the qualified nurse.


Manual handling of patients after establishing best method, following completion of the assessment form by an assistant practitioner or qualified nurse.

Maintain safety of patients, personal clothing and property in accordance with agreed policies related to security and confidentiality.

The collection of specimens, including stool, urine, MSU, CSU, sputum and wound swabs in accordance with Trust policies/guidelines.

Undertake admission details and observations and report outcome immediately to qualified nurse for review and signature and plan.

Provide clear and concise verbal communication to patients, clients and multi
- disciplinary teams.
