    REF: CI175848

Applications are invited for two substantive Consultant Anaesthetist posts with an interest in Paediatric Anaesthesia.

This is an opportunity to be part of a forward thinking, friendly and supportive team of Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital. Both posts are whole time equivalent replacement posts with 8 Direct Clinical Care Programmed Activities and 2 Supporting Programmed Activities offering sessions in both adult and paediatric practice, suitable for those wishing to maintain skills in both areas. Each post will contribute to the Paediatric Anaesthesia on-call out of hours' rota with an on-call frequency of 1 in 8.5 with prospective cover.

Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital is a tertiary paediatric centre providing high quality, acute and comprehensive care for children up to the age of 16 years from the Grampian region in the North-East of Scotland, as well as from the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Provision of Neonatal surgery supports the level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which is based in the adjacent Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. This will move to a new development, the 'Baird Family Hospital' expected to open in September 2024. Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital is a Paediatric Major Trauma Centre and part of the North of Scotland Trauma Network. It is the regional Paediatric Oncology provider for the North of Scotland. Additional clinical networks enable children from other parts of Scotland to receive their specialist care in Aberdeen.

A business case bid to expand children's theatres in line with growing clinical demand has recently been successful. This exciting development will lead to an increase in operating sessions and workforce. The growing Paediatric Anaesthesia team is now funded for 8.5 whole time equivalent Consultants, giving rise to new clinical and non-clinical opportunities and a sustainable on-call out of hours' rota with an attractive work-life balance.

Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with easy access to spectacular surrounding countryside. This, along with a track record of excellent secondary and further education, makes it an attractive place in which to live and an ideal base for those with families. The city offers easy travel links to other European cities with daily flights to London taking just over one hour.

Aberdeen has a large and supportive Anaesthetic department which covers a comprehensive range of clinical services and caters for well-structured undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programmes.
