    Job summary

    Two exciting vacancies have arisen for 2 named GPs (clinical leads) to work with the safeguarding team for Frimley ICB. The positions will hold the safeguarding lead for Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) and for Bracknell Forest averaging one session at £288 (4 hours) per week per post.

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking for GPs who work within RBWM and/or Bracknell Forest and have considerable interest and experience in are developmental, supportive positions and an opportunity for the development of professional expertise in the field of will work closely with the other Named GPs for safeguarding across Frimley ICB and the ICB safeguarding team. Applicants must have the ability to be flexible and cover across East Berkshire as required. You will be supported to be part of a team to provide expert advice, safeguarding updates and support to colleagues in primary care. The work includes multiagency liaison as required. The role which averages one 4 hour session per post per week.

    The post holder will be part of a team driving continuous development and improvement for safeguarding within the primary care networks with a local, place-based focus. They will be a key player to design and implement safeguarding training for Primary Care teams across East Berkshire. The core activities would relate to improving the understanding and capabilities of other practitioners to respond to suspected or actual cases of child and adult abuse or neglect and to work closely with other agencies and with relevant sub committees of the Local Multiagency Safeguarding Arrangements. The Named GP has a training and liaison role within the ICB, building relationships with other health providers and local authorities.

    Education/Qualifications

    Essential

  • MBBS
  • Desirable

  • RCGP membership
  • Diploma in Child Health or equivalent experience , attachment to Community Paediatrics
  • Training

  • Member of RCGP subgroup: PCCSF virtual group (on recruitment)
  • Previous Experience

    Essential

  • Experience in dealing with enquiries relating to a child and their family
  • Assessment of the needs of children and adults and the capability of parent to meet the children's needs
  • Desirable

  • Training others in Child Protection Adult Safeguarding matters
  • Participation in Child Protection Conferences or Adult MDT meetings.
  • Participating in implementation of a Child Protection plan
  • Contributing to case reviews
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Essential

  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Understanding of the National and local Police framework
  • Understanding of the Royal College of GPs position relating to Child Protection and Adult protection.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of local Child and Adult Protection procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate through knowledge and insight of Safeguarding as it presents in General Practice
  • Knowledge of the Inter-agency processes of Safeguarding and the challenges presented to GPs
  • Understanding of Child Development
  • Recognition of actual or suspected abuse of neglect in the general practice setting
  • Understanding of the Serious Case Reviews process
  • Understanding of the learning from Serious Case Reviews
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Safeguarding boards, including inter-agency working
  • Understanding of forensic procedures/practice
