    Description

    Scottish Opera's Costume Department is offering a trainee position to an enthusiastic person with qualifications in theatre costume making, or experience of working in theatre wardrobe.


    Contract:
    Fixed term from Monday 9 September 2024 – Sunday 7 September 2025.
    Hours: 39-hour week, Mon-Fri (8.30am to 5pm) with some evening/weekend work required.

    Location:
    Edington Street Production Studios and other venues as required.

    Salary:
    £25,812.77 per annum, plus benefits.
    This position is part of our Emerging Artists programme.

    The successful candidate will receive training from our senior staff, and will gain practical experience in all areas of the company's costume department:


    • Making traditional men and womenswear costumes in the workroom.
    • Costume maintenance, dressing and touring in the Running Wardrobe department.
    • Costume storage and organisation in our hire department.
    • Costume Supervision and budgeting for a small Scottish Opera production.

    The contract is based at Scottish Opera's Production Studios at Edington Street, at the Theatre Royal Glasgow, and on tour with the company.

    Interviews will be held on week commencing 17th June 2024 at our Production Studios in Edington Street, Glasgow.


    • Candidates selected for interview are expected to bring a sample of their costume making work and either a small portfolio or photographs of garments that they have worked on.
    • Candidates are required to undertake a simple sewing test to establish their ability in hand sewing and a test in machine sewing on an industrial sewing machine.
    • Candidates will be asked to complete a short multiple-choice test on Historical Costume.
