Overtime:
Time and 1⁄2 after 37.5 hours

Location:
Telford

Permanent role working for aleading prime Defence design and manufacturingclient.

A Senior Design Engineer is required with knowledge and experience of leading a team of Design engineers using 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent, understandings and analysing a wide variety of engineering issues.

Knowledge and familiaritywith a range of manufacturing techniques, materials and the product development process along with design, development or evaluation within complex engineering fields such in the automotive, aerospace, nuclear or the wider defence industry such as militaryarmoured land vehicles.

Ansys, LS Dyna, MATLAB would be well received.

Due to expansion the client based in Telford requires a dynamic, leading Design Engineer on a permanent basis
.
As a Senior Design Engineer you will be required to:

Act as the Survivability design team lead ensuring that design and drafting standards and practices are adhered to and providing drawing checking and guidance to the team.
Generate of design specifications and / or design schemes; including CAD models, assemblies and drafting 2D drawings for concept and detail designs of mechanical systems.
Work with the wider Survivability team to turn ideas and concepts into workable, manufacturable designs for prototyping and integration.
Provide calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action such as tolerance analysis and stress calculations to support concept and detail design.
Produce engineering solutions and technical data packs to company standards to satisfy the technical requirements of a contract.
Produce specifications and designs, which simultaneously fulfil the contractual requirements and contribute to costeffective design.
Work with other teams such as Operations, particularly during the prototype phase to ensure that improvements, changes and feedback are incorporated into the maturing designs
Ensure that designs produced consider the following in conjunction with other Subject Matter Experts:
Product Design safety
Design for manufacture, assembly, disassembly and end of life processing
Design to cost
Design for reliability and maintainability

Team Development

Lead a small team of multiskilled engineers / designers with a strong focus on delivery and quality.
Provide mentoring and development of the team's skills and knowledge with respect to areas including drafting and engineering design methodology
Conduct staff development, including PDR and PRP reviews (where applicable)

The Senior Design Engineer s hould have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

Essential to have a high level of experience in engineering drafting and design, ideally previously operating as a senior designer or in a design office lead position
Proficient at using 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent
Knowledge and familiarity with a range of manufacturing techniques, materials and the product development process.

Experience of at least one of the following would be highly desirable:

Design, development or evaluation within complex engineering fields such in the automotive, aerospace, nuclear or the wider defence industry.
Design of military armoured land vehicles.
Design, integration and evaluation of crew survivability systems for armoured vehicles.
Desirable to have experience of FEA, CFD or other modelling and simulation capabilities
Ansys, LS Dyna, MATLAB etc.
Good written and verbal presentation skills.
Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent in relevant field) or be working towards that objective.
Degree level of education, or an equivalent level of competence with appropriate training and significant proven engineering experience
Ability to hold UK SC security clearance or higher
Enthusiastic and dedicated outlook with the desire to develop personally and the ability to operate independently, within a small design team or as part of a wider project team.
