Health Education England (HEE) exists to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that the medical workforce has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place.


The role of Programme Support Coordinator supports the Schools that train the medical workforce, providing operational management and leadership across a large and diverse team.

The post holder will be based in the newly established Specialty Training Programmes Directorate, reporting to Programme Support Managers and working with Heads of School to provide high quality administrative support to training programmes.


The post holder will have excellent interpersonal skills, be highly visible, and work collaboratively within the directorate and alongside stakeholders to ensure high quality performance and output.


The post currently involves remote working but will be based at one of our three offices in Leeds, Sheffield or Hull.

Post holders will also be expected to travel across the Yorkshire and Humber region where required for meetings and events.

Programme Support Coordinators are responsible for ensuring a portfolio of tasks and projects across the directorate and Schools are planned, managed and delivered effectively.

This is an interesting and varied role, with key duties including:


  • Line management and leadership of a team
  • Lead on coordination of the postgraduate doctor in training assessment processes
  • Lead on administration of postgraduate doctor in training rotations
  • Delivering Specialty School support and projects
  • Attendance at Specialty School meetings and events
  • Lead on data quality within specialty training programmes
  • Lead on staff and faculty recruitment

The post holder will have opportunities to gain experience across different workstreams within the Directorate and participate in Management Development Programmes.

Salary Progression


Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 6 with a full-time starting salary of £33,706, with pay step increases after 2 years' service and 5 years' service.
