    Harlyn Solutions is an engineering-led transportation company specialising in moving complex and unique cargo. Harlyn has grown quickly through innovative thinking, detailed engineering and responding quickly to meet our clients' requirements. We solve complex transportation problems enabling our clients to focus on their main business operations.

    Harlyn requires a Technical Sales Engineer to drive the continued growth of Harlyn. The role is to work with clients and industry stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to our client's problems.

    The role can be remote or office-based, with travel for exhibitions, client visits and negotiations expected. Furthermore, at the start, we expect attendance in the office and at the site to gain a better understanding of what we do, why we are different and how we solve our client's problems.

    You will be involved in our project globally from either our offices in Blyth or Rotterdam. Working with the projects and engineering departments as well as the commercial team to develop methodologies and pricing and respond to clients' enquiries with our renowned innovation and flexible approach.

    What we expect from you:

    The key responsibilities for the role are:

    • play a key role in the preparation and submission of tender proposals to our clients;
    • analysing tender documentation received from potential clients and working on method selection, cost calculations and risk assessments as well as putting together storyboards, value propositions and other differentiating information to propel Harlyn's chances of conversion
    • program the works and draft transporation sequence drawings;
    • liaise with subcontractors, partners and supporting teams to get the required information
    • reporting for internal and external approval purposes. ensure the introduction of new business to Harlyn and to secure backlog at profitable margins.
    • Actively lead the tendering process for bids, providing guidance for execution methodology, market pricing and customer expectations.
    • Participate in pricing reviews and carry out reviews to ensure competitive business development tenders are submitted on time and to customer expectations.
    • Keep CRM up to date with workload and planning
    • Actively convert enquiries into secured backlog at approved margins
    • Ensure the Company's commercial interests are safeguarded during tendering and contract negotiations up to and including Contract award
    • Travel to visit customers and industry events on a regular basis
    • Engage with the delivery teams to ensure tendered work, once won is executed and you learn lessons from the delivery team to improve the process.

    Key tasks

    • Actively plan and carry out client visits as well as ensure contact reports are completed and logged
    • Manage a planner for industry events and networking opportunities
    • Undertake market research, competitor analysis and reporting on Harlyn's position
    • Plan, manage and lead activities towards Harlyn's key clients
    • Develop working relationships with colleagues
    • Together with the Managing Director, agree and prioritize opportunities and resource allocation
    • Manage ongoing tenders to ensure deliverables are in line with client expectations, delivered on time and are presented professionally.
    • Ensure that the Company's key selling points permeate both the covering letter and other key tender documentation to ensure the Client receives a clear and consistent message on these points
    • Accurately respond to clarifications received by the client in a timely manner
    • Contribute, develop and own the standardised cost-estimating tools and data
    • Ensure quality handover from sales to the project team on successful tenders and ensure lessons learned from projects are fed back into the tendering process.

    Qualifications and expertise

    • Business development experience requested but not required
    • Ability to communicate with staff and stakeholders at all levels
