Description

Job description:

Environmental Crime in the Community is something that we must all work together on to reduce.

The role of an Environmental Enforcement Officer will see you undertaking a range of different activities within the local community to address this problem.

District Enforcement work in partnership with Local Authorities and we are embarking on a new contract with Thurrock Council. We are now looking for outstanding individuals to collaborate with our team of Enforcement officers.

Officers are given designated powers and will conduct foot patrol across the Borough.

In the case of witnessing an offence such as littering or dog fouling, you will be required to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to the offender, whilst offering advice and providing information which will hopefully result in long-term behavioural changes amongst individuals.

About Thurrock
Thurrock is a great place to live

There is a vibrant mix of established towns and new young communities, with a diverse and growing population of around 160,000 residents.

Rents are more affordable than those in neighbouring London boroughs.

The population is diverse, with a mix of nationalities living across towns and villages. Massive investment and growth are bringing new jobs and opportunities to the area.

Whilst London is directly on the Eastern border, Thurrock itself is not as built-up. Behind 18 miles of riverfront there is varied green belt areas that cover 70% of the borough.

Those who prefer unspoilt countryside will enjoy two nature reserves - Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve and Thameside Nature Park - along with many other open parks and woodlands.

About you

Ideally, we are looking for a person who is motivated, and holds the right skill sets and behaviours, to work independently, whilst supporting their colleagues and working as part of a team to deliver an outstanding service within the community.

  • Do you care about the community where you live?
  • Are you looking for a career change?
  • Do you consistently act with conscience and integrity?
  • Are you willing to build and collaborate with a team to achieve excellence whilst acting as ambassadors to Thurrock Council?
  • Are you enthusiastic about the Environment and want to make a real difference?
  • Are you able to engage with people, and do you hold effective communication skills?
  • Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
  • Do you have basic IT skills and are able to use technology/smart phones?
  • Do you think you have what it takes to stand up to those who break the law?
  • Do you hold a full UK Driving Licence?

If so, we provide great training, collaborating with experienced officers, which will compliment your existing skills to make you an excellent enforcement officer.

We are also looking for full-time positions, to fit with the core needs of the business. Full-time positions will cover 40 hours per week, with a rolling rota in place to assist on weekend working. Further details will be provided at interview.

This is an interesting and challenging role and tackling Environmental Crime does make a difference.

As representatives of both the Company and the Local Authority, you will need to be highly motivated and should have a GCSE in Mathematics and English (or equivalent NVQ - key skills).

You must be able to conduct foot patrol for a major part of your daily shift and be able to patrol in all weather conditions.

Law enforcement or similar experience useful but not essential as full training will be provided.

Salary:
£24,960.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
