Looking to jump-start a Legal career? This York based firm have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Secretary.


To provide secretarial support required for the smooth running of the York Office, together with general office and reception duties.

Additionally, to provide secretarial support to the Hull Office, as required.

Your Day


The job holder will work under the supervision of the York Office Partners, whilst liaising with the Head of HR.


  • Providing typing support for Lawyers using digital dictation. To include
  • Tidying up draft documents produced by Lawyers and drafting straightforward documents
  • Taking telephone and other messages for Lawyers within the office
  • Answering, where appropriate, queries from clients and other Lawyers.
- making calls to clients to inform them of progress on their file (on the instructions of a Lawyer)

  • Making searches
  • Conducting online searches for Conveyancing matters
  • Administration
- photocopying

  • Faxing / scanning
  • Email (internal and external)
  • File opening / closing
  • Retrieval and archiving of documents
  • Making appointments in the computer diary for Lawyers
  • Organise travel arrangements
  • Filing
  • Liaison with Records Department for file administration
  • To cover Reception and General Office duties (rota basis)

Your Skills and Attributes

  • Eye for detail
  • Flexibility and the aptitude to work well as part of a team
  • Prior experience in a Commercial Property department as a secretary and working in a legal office environment is preferable.
  • Computer literacy with good keyboard skills is necessary, together with a sound command of English grammar, punctuation, spelling, and comprehension.
  • Software currently used by the firm includes Microsoft Word, Outlook, Big Hand (digital dictation) and Advanced Legal Office (ALB).
  • It is also essential that the jobholder has good interpersonal skills and can communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external contacts and has the ability to deal with matters tactfully.
