Description
Cellular pathology department deals with human tissue samples which are processed into tissue blocks and then onto glass slides for diagnosis of disease / malignancies by histopathology consultants


This job role will involve:

To assist consultants and Biomedical scientists during macroscopic examination of tissues

To perform quality check of forms, slides, and tissue blocks


To undertake the daily maintenance of the equipment within the department for example the tissue processors and changing the reagents.

To carry out the process of tissue disposal.

To file the slides and the blocks generated in a numerical order


The post holder will be a part of a team of Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical support workers delivering a high-quality Pathology service.


The post holder will be required to undertake their responsibilities within any of the sections of Pathology to comply with national standards e.g.

ISO15189 and HTA


The post will involve good attention to detail, dealing with telephone enquiries, handling patient samples, inputting patient sample requests and being involved in preparing samples for analysis, and general laboratory/reception housekeeping.


The post holder will be expected to follow Standard Operating Procedures, have good IT skills, a versatile approach to working, perform manual processes, be able to use and maintain automated equipment once trained, and support Biomedical Scientists in their routine work.
