Cellular pathology department deals with human tissue samples which are processed into tissue blocks and then onto glass slides for diagnosis of disease / malignancies by histopathology consultantsThis job role will involve:
To assist consultants and Biomedical scientists during macroscopic examination of tissues
To perform quality check of forms, slides, and tissue blocks
To undertake the daily maintenance of the equipment within the department for example the tissue processors and changing the reagents.
To file the slides and the blocks generated in a numerical order
The post holder will be a part of a team of Biomedical Scientists and Biomedical support workers delivering a high-quality Pathology service.
The post holder will be required to undertake their responsibilities within any of the sections of Pathology to comply with national standards e.g.
The post will involve good attention to detail, dealing with telephone enquiries, handling patient samples, inputting patient sample requests and being involved in preparing samples for analysis, and general laboratory/reception housekeeping.
The post holder will be expected to follow Standard Operating Procedures, have good IT skills, a versatile approach to working, perform manual processes, be able to use and maintain automated equipment once trained, and support Biomedical Scientists in their routine work.
We have also entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

Take an active part in the development review of own work against the KSF outline for the post with their reviewer and suggests areas for learning and development in the coming year.
Evaluate the effectiveness of learning opportunities and alert others to benefits and problems.
Keeps up-to-date records of own development review process.
To assist in the training of staff members in duties in which the post holder is competent.
Attend all mandatory and statutory training.

Be aware of their responsibilities under current legislation and policies.
Ensure compliance with all local and national standards of work practice e.g., HTA and ISO15189.

Make sure that the workplace is kept clean and tidy.
Report any health and safety issues to their line manager.
Use the correct procedure when admitting visitors to the laboratory.
