    An exciting opportunity has arisen for candidates who have an interest or experience in working with children and young people to be an engagement practitioner within Sefton Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services provided by Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust


    The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will work to engage children, young people and families in the therapeutic process, supporting the implementation, under the supervision of an experienced clinician, of complex interventions.

    The post holder will be expected to liaise with external agencies including health, education, social care and the voluntary sector and act as a named key worker to children, young people and families accessing the service.

    Successful candidates will have a passion for delivering safe, high quality and effective services to children and young people and will be enthusiastic and committed with strong communication and team working skills.

    Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year.

    Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man.

    The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

    We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites.

    We're also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

    Education and Training
    Degree level qualification and/or equivalent experience in a child and family related field e.g. social work, youth and community work, nursing

    Experience of working with families with mental health problems.
    Experience of facilitating groups of young people and enabling their effective participation in service design and development.

    Knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and the ability to act in accordance with Trust procedures.

    Knowledge and understanding of the needs of children, young people and families with varying or multiple protected characteristics: ethnicity, disability, culture, sexuality, religion etc.

    Knowledge of child development including adolescence.

    Ability to form appropriate relationships with children, young people and families
    Ability to engage and maintain engagement of children, young people and families in the therapeutic process

    Skilled in the communication of sensitive issues and have an awareness of child protection issues and understand the bounds of confidentiality.

    Ability to engage with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals both internally and externally in a child/family centred way

    To be able to work independently with young people presenting at risk but being aware to maintain this within the bounds of your responsibility accessing supervision if required out of the formal structure.


    Must demonstrate a commitment to on-going professional development

    Must demonstrate an understanding of the need to take part in Personal Development Reviews to ensure career development plus attending relevant training when appropriate.
