Description
Costing & Risk Intern

Here's what you'll be doing

As an intern with EEM UK's 'Costing & Risk' team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of our forecasting processes.

Your primary responsibility will be to assess, develop, and streamline the architecture for incorporating risk into our existing 'Forecast Store' database.

This involves the creation of Snowflake tables, queries, and associated upload tools, along with comprehensive documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and develop a clear architecture for integrating risk into the 'Forecast Store' database.
  • Create Snowflake tables, queries, and upload tools for efficient risk incorporation.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of various elements in our customer's energy cost stack, assessing uncertainties, and understanding commercial pricing strategies.
  • Contribute to the improvement of forecasting accuracy and efficiency.
  • The 'Costing & Risk' team focuses on forecasting network and policy charges for UK supply businesses. Currently, the team stores all Expected Value (EV) forecasts in the Snowflakehosted 'Forecast Store' database, while risk is stored separately. Your role will involve automating the integration of risk into 'Forecast Store' outputs, reducing operational risk and time consumption.
  • Implement a solution where both EV and risk levels are stored in the 'Forecast Store,' allowing for the automatic generation of rates for Pricing teams, incorporating the risk element. Additionally, contribute to the development of an automated extraction process for rates from the 'Forecast Store' to the UK I&C Junifer system.
  • Streamlined production of forecast rates for retail businesses.
  • Enhanced agility in I&C pricing, enabling quicker responses to changes in industry costs.
  • Elimination of operational risk associated with manual addition of risk to EV prices.

What we need from you

  • Currently pursuing a degree, with a keen interest in the energy industry.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Familiarity with database management tools, especially Snowflake.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • We're looking for a placement student with strong analytical, programming and database skills to help us develop an automated system for pricing our I&C customers.
  • Curiosity and a desire to provide commercial insight
  • Comfortable working independently to set goals and objectives

Here's what you need to know

  • Flexible working arrangement (anything between 10 and 37 hours a week)
  • Flexible contract length to fit your studies (with a minimum commitment of 2 months), with flexible start and end date
- £23,000 pro rata salary

  • Hybrid working model (with a minimum of 40% in our Coventry office)
  • Guidance and supervision as and when it's needed
  • To learn about an ever evolving and developing industry
  • Interviews will begin week commencing 18th March 2024
