    Job title of line manager : Area Manager

    Job Overview
    To manage and supervise civil engineering projects at site level.

    To drive the quality, productivity levels and health and safety performance of operational teams, support resources and assigned sub-contractors.

    Key Accountability 1 – Operational Management 50% of time

    • Ensure that operations are carried out in an effective, efficient and safe manner to provide a service to our customers with availability in line with all relevant Water Recycling and environmental protection standards.
    • Work across the organisation ensuring our teams are aware of how their activities can impact upon compliance (i.e. Pollution, Flooding, LOS etc), making sure that decisions are made to drive compliance across our process areas.
    • Work across business processes to look for ways to improve our processes, driving efficiency, whilst managing risk to compliance.
    • Ensure our operations focus on delivering quality, and right first time approach to delivery.
    • Coordinate site activities including management of plant, materials, traffic management, associated subcontract activities.
    • Keep a close account of costs, including purchasing, labour resources and hire, including monitoring the need for and use of hired-in plant and equipment.
    • Ensure the optimum method of construction is used and that it meets all the required standards. Key Accountability 2 – Delivery of identified business priorities, driving efficiency, effectively balancing 20% of time service, cost and quantity.
    • Ownership and management of local budgets to ensure delivery of our business plan in line with affordability. Highlighting risk and variance to finance plans, and ensuring mitigation is in place where appropriate.
    • Maintain delivery of our performance commitments in line with agreed business priorities.
    • Connect our teams to our purpose and vision, ensure they understand their role within the delivery of our strategic priorities and that our team's performance is managed in line with our business outcomes.
    • Support the delivery of innovative ideas, techniques and technologies to enhance business performance and enable implementation and scaling up of opportunities across the wider business.
    • Actively support operational incidents and support the embedding of a collaborative culture where our teams are 'in it together' driving opportunities for cross business working and increased collaboration to support business aims. Key Accountability 3 – Strategic Leadership 20% of time
    • Collaborate, sharing knowledge, always exploring to look for new ways of working, highlighting and owning process improvements through a continuous improvement mindset.
    • Role model the Anglian Water values, contribute proactively across the organisation.
    • Manage direct reports and team members, ensuring everyone has clear objectives and understands how they contribute to the success of our organisation.
    • Ensure management processes are embedded and feedback listened to and acted upon.
    • Ensure high levels of accountability, holding teams to account to deliver against our business objectives, focusing output on the impact of our colleagues, customers, communities and the environment.
    • Drive high levels of engagement through clear communication, delivering business messages internally and externally. Key Accountability 4 – Health and Safety 10% of time
    • Lead by example to ensure Health, Safety and Quality standards are always complied with on site
    • Complete all necessary documentation relating to Health, Safety & Environmental matters in a timely fashion.
    • Organise sites so that work is carried out to the required standard or specification with minimum risk to all persons, equipment, materials & the environment
    • Ensure all site staff and sub-contractors are fully briefed with precise instructions on their responsibilities, the correct working methods, site specific emergency procedures including protection to the environment and any control measures in place.
    • Ensure awareness of the Company Policy for Health, Safety, Welfare & Protection to the Environment.
    • Promote and support the continuing development of a culture of Health and Safety awareness.
    • Ensure that personnel under your control are adequately trained and fully aware of the hazards involved in the work undertaken.
    • Conduct frequent inspections to ensure that all machinery and equipment is maintained in a safe condition, that safety rules are observed, and Personal Protective Equipment is worn.
    • Immediately report any failure to comply with Health, Safety, Welfare & Environmental procedures.
    • Assist with compilation of site specific Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS), review any generic RAMS provided and make any necessary amendments as required.
