    Our Integrated Mental Health and Substance Misuse Team at HMP Oakwood is looking for a dynamic and experienced registered mental health nurse. Our teams is innovative, forward thinking and committed to a recovery focused approach.

    • have an excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its application to prisoners who require transfer to hospital;
    • are an independent prescriber and PNA or are prepared to undertake the training

    Main duties of the job

    • Working effectively within the team you will provide expert clinical knowledge and interventions, advice, support and supervision in the multi-disciplinary pathway to colleagues, service users and carers.
    • You will be responsible for providing leadership to deliver best practice, evidence based care and interventions and provide professional nursing leadership within the team.
    • A key function will be to support the delivery of a trauma informed culture across the estate and identify opportunities for research and development.
    • Lead on the fostering of a just culture and, in doing so, provide a compassionate and nurturing approach to the team.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    • You will lead the team in expert assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for a specific group of service users.
    • Supervise and teach service users and carers, multi-disciplinary team professionals, qualified and unqualified staff and the general public.
    • Work in partnership with service users, carers and other agencies to ensure effectiveness of outcomes.
    • Work alongside consultant psychiatrists to implement an independent prescribing service for men accessing mental health care.
    • Model best practice and lead innovation.
    • Provide emotional support and care to the wider workforce.
