    Job summary

We are looking to appoint a senior clinical fellow in Geriatric Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital.

This is an ideal opportunity to work in a busy but well supported department with a team of highly motivated consultants and trainees. The successful applicant will gain experience across a wide variety of medical conditions and will have access to the full range of in-house educational opportunities afforded to other trainees.

This post will be well suited to those looking to bridge the gap between core and speciality training in acute medicine and geriatric medicine or for trainees who simply wish to gain more experience in both these fields. Our department has a well- developed front door admissions avoidance service as well as integrated services such as care home and community geriatric medicine.

The successful applicant will be able to participate in the department's teaching, audit, and educational activities. In addition, the department will be able to support exposure to other specialist clinics.

    Main duties of the job

The clinical fellow will primarily be based on the geriatric medicine wards with responsibility for the ongoing care of patients on the 32-bedded ward. The exact pattern of working days will be decided with the successful applicants with the aim of providing as much cover and continuity as their resource allows. They will enable rapid discharge and provide timely review of patients under their care. The clinical fellow will be directly supervised by a senior trainee in addition to the ward consultant.

The post holder will participate in HSEP ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. They will develop skills in identifying and managing frailty, delirium, and dementia. Working with the ward MDT and community teams they will develop person-centred plans for the management plans for in-patient care and post-discharge.
