Salary:
The starting salary is £37,289, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.


The salary is broken down as £34,448 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £36,864. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

You will be the first point of contact to our customers across the Met relating to all Fleet matters.

This will involve managing availability and utilisation of vehicles, and providing insight to support the management, improvement, and performance of fleet.

No day will be the same. It is a fast-paced working environment, which means your flexibility and ability to work to shifting demands is key. You will enjoy collaborating with officers and staff and have a talent for communicating clearly and succinctly.

As a natural problem-solver, with a keen interest in large data sets and an eye for detail, you'll prioritise and identify issues to make evidenced based, data driven decisions for senior leaders.

You will have the opportunity to support planned and unplanned major events across London.


Your work will support the Met's mission of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards, working within the guiding principles to make decisions and behaving in line with our values.

This is alongside supporting the acceleration of decarbonisation to achieve Net Zero Carbon status by 2030.

We are radically changing the fleet to deliver high-quality policing services in a more efficient and cost-effective way as we transition away from a reliance on petrol and diesel.

For the Met, this is both an operational necessity and a legal obligation.


The Met's fleet of 5000 vehicles, 1000 pedal cycles and 25 marine vessels are all important physical assets that enable our officers and staff to carry out their jobs.

The vehicles are a workplace for our officers and staff, carry sophisticated equipment for operational policing and providing a safe environment for the transport of the public and prisoners.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with both internal and external suppliers, challenging performance, and availability issues to ensure optimal service levels and ensure correct accountability and governance processes are followed.
  • Support the Customer Relationships team in the provision of a safe, available, and fit for purpose fleet, also dealing with additional demands to support operational policing.
  • Through effective customer engagement, drive the evolution of the fleet in line with the 2030 zero emission target by managing behaviour towards hybrid and electric vehicles, ensuring the correct allocation of vehicles.
  • Support the Customer Relationships team in daily, weekly, adhoc or planned customer meetings, either face to face meetings or using technology such as Microsoft Teams
  • Build strong working relationships at all levels, working with customers to identify and implement service improvements.
  • Be the first point of contact for customer enquiries to ensure services meet or exceed expectations.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records conducting regular checks to ensure data is correct, and ensuring all systems are updated in a timely manner.
  • Manage the sharing of data and flow of information across Fleet Services, suppliers, clients and other external stakeholders and present Fleet data to a variety of audiences producing fleet reports and ad hoc reports as and when required.
  • Manage, challenge and process requests for additional vehicles, ensuring they are all accounted for and that the correct governance is followed, ensuring the recovery of assets at agreed return dates.
  • Support the wider fleet team to develop innovative operational improvements and services to ensure a more efficient and environmentally sustainable Fleet.
  • Deliver to agreed Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators

How to apply

Knowledge:
(desirable)


  • In depth understanding of the different teams within Fleet Services, and how they interact with each other.
  • A good understanding of the different vehicle roles across the fleet, including user requirements.
  • Good knowledge of fleet administration and the implications including insurance, congestion charging, Emissions zones, Notice of Intended Prosecution and Penalty Charge Notices
  • Good understanding of the organisational and governance structures within MPS, and how they interact with each other.
