    Job description

    At the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, we pride ourselves on our creative communications.

    Our agenda - which includes issues such as energy security, energy bills and tackling climate change - means we are always in the news.

    We're looking for expert communicators with proven skills in media relations to join our team, drafting high-quality plans to tell the story on some of the Government's highest priorities.

    The successful candidates will be experienced in translating detailed information into engaging and easy-to-understand language, delivering creative communications plans that encompass a range of channels including traditional and social media.

    The talented and high-profile press office at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is staffed by a team of committed, professional communicators. As a member of the Government Communications Service, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills with both formal and informal training and mentoring.

    Person specification

  • Produce media monitoring products for the department, keeping officials, Special Advisers and ministers appraised of the latest developments in our key areas of policy.
  • Identify news stories that require both reactive government comment to counter incorrect reporting and proactive insertion of the department�s voice to promote the government�s agenda.
  • Draft engaging tweets and statements for ministers.
  • Produce research and briefing products for use by ministers ahead of public engagements like media interviews.
  • Receive, log and respond to enquiries from journalists.
  • Produce evaluation of key departmental announcements.
  • Skills and experience:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A talent for writing creative, eye-catching and persuasive copy.
  • Good stakeholder engagement skills.
  • An ability to quickly learn new tools, contribute new ideas and learn new approaches to delivering world-class communication.

    Alongside your salary of �25,310, Department for Energy Security & Net Zero contributes �6,833 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
