    Job summary

    The post holder is a clinical team leader in an area requiringdemonstrable clinical expertise and will be directly responsible for the dailyorganisation of a busy Linear Accelerator with a varied and highly complexworkload. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring highly accurate andconsistent standards in the treatment delivery and the management of associatedside effects of patients with a cancer diagnosis.

    Additionally the post holder works closely with a multi-disciplinaryteam including Radiotherapy Physicists, Technicians, pre-treatmentRadiographers, Oncologists and other professional groups to provide a thorough,efficient service encompassing all aspects of accurate Radiotherapy treatmentdelivery and patient care.

    The post holder providesspecialist clinical training and supervision of junior staff, new staff,students and other health professionals within their area of accountability.

    Main duties of the job

    To lead a busy Linear Accelerator with avaried treatment workload using effective clinical and personnel managementskills and strategies.

    To provide safe and accurate specialisttechnical service delivering therapeutic ionising radiation, while maintaininga high duty of care to all patients undergoing Radiotherapy.

    Demonstrate ability to resolve complextreatment issues with problem solving skills and effective autonomousdecision-making.

    To communicate and participate with themulti-disciplinary team involved in patient care and service delivery.

    Be able to proactively implement andeffectively manage change.

    Demonstrate a good understanding of theIR(ME)R 2017 Regulations to ensure safe compliance with National Standard.

    Provide effective leadership to ensuresmooth running of the treatment unit taking into account the needs of thepatient, staff and service.

    To set and maintain quality standards forwork undertaken on the treatment unit.

    Must organise personnel and daily clinicalsessions demonstrating effective time management and managerial strategies usingavailable resources to manage fluctuations in demand.

    Job responsibilities

    Toensure that the treatment equipment is safe to operate, both for staff andpatients, undertaking the appropriate machine checks and reporting anyvariances promptly.

    Managethe specialist treatment unit workload efficiently according to the needs ofthe patients, ensuring an efficient smooth running treatment unit.

    Toprovide effective and safe patient management encompassing all patients needs,using specialist knowledge of treatment side effects, skin reactions and theirmanagement. Taking responsibility for referring patients for clinicalassessment by a consultant or deputy, prior to commencement of treatment whensymptoms become acute.

    Inputand check palliative and complex radical treatment plans in Eclipse and ARIA.

    Tomaintain and continually develop specialist knowledge of ARIA.

    Undertakeautonomous registration, review of images and take responsibility for ensuringthe decision making on the changes required for the patients treatmentprocedure or non-continuation of patient treatment where appropriate.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent.
  • DCR (T) or BSc (Hons)
  • Current HCPC Registration.
  • Up to date evidence of
  • Desirable

  • PGCE or equivalent in training
  • Evidence of MSc Learning
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of treatment delivery.
  • Experience as a qualified radiographer to masters level or equivalent.
  • Specialist knowledge and understanding of the ARIA computer system.
  • Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns.
  • An active awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards, professional guidelines and trust policies. (IRR IR(ME)R ISO9001:2000)
  • Demonstrable experience of leadership or staff management.
  • High level of clinical competence as an autonomous practitioner or team lead.
  • Current specialised knowledge and experience of the field of radiotherapy.
  • Specialised knowledge of treatment area, including potential radiation risks, acute treatment side effects and their effective management
  • Awareness of Research Methodology: to enable participation in departmental and national research trials.
  • Desirable

  • Required to use computer systems and VDU equipment .use excel, word etc to produce documents and spreadsheets for audit. Be able to extract the information and produce audit reports.
  • Prior evidence of project management
  • Knowledge of CT and planning processes and methodologies
  • Awareness of Research Methodology to enable participation in departmental and national research trials.
