Working within the HR directorate, the Internal Comms team creates great content and shares the story of people behind the projects, along with measuring the impact and reach of all that we do is key to making a difference for our colleagues and their engagement.


About the job:


We're looking for someone who has an analytical mind, understands data and is a great communicator with a sharp focus on attention to detail.

You'll have experience of planning and implementing communications campaigns that contribute to the overall engagement, behavioural and cultural change of colleagues in GWR.


We need an excellent team player, who can work with a range of teams and key people throughout the business, advising colleagues on how to share our story with their teams and with colleagues across the business as we revalue rail in hearts and minds of our colleagues, as well as the traveling public.


Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To work with the Internal Communications team, and wider communications function, to keep the editorial plan up to date and to help identify content for on and offline channels and publications
  • To help coordinate content across various internal communications channels that include: monthly Manager Briefing conference calls and cascade communications; weekly Connect enewsletter; WesternLines publication and other company wide internal communications, including adding content to the GWR Intranet
  • Lead on admin for the IC team. This includes room bookings; budget monitoring with finance; status returns with payroll; ordering goods and liaising with procurement for suppliers and complying with internal controls for good financial management. As well as liaising with suppliers for film, photography and events
  • To work with the team to support regular internal communications and employee engagement activities and events including the annual Leadership Conference and Quarterly Senior Leader meetings
  • Develop and implement the day to day 'silver level' internal PR and communications campaigns throughout the business, which includes creating great content, e.g., Wellbeing, Learning and Development, Inclusion and other key projects
  • Provide advice and support to colleagues about internal communications processes and ways of working, so they can support their local communications activities
  • Gather and report the statistics for the IC measurement framework with relevant insight to develop and inform campaigns and evaluates the impact and reach of messages and tracks behavioural and attitude change of employees
  • Coordinate ongoing internal communications research and identify best practice and benchmarking opportunities
About you

You'll need to be:


Organised, high attention to detail, team player and used to working quickly to respond to changing needs of the business and managing conflicting priorities with an appropriate sense of urgency to get work completed on time against deadlines.

Skilled with words and numbers; a capable storyteller with strong data analysis ability and confident using tools in Office 365

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Appropriate qualifications, evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to learn/ experience of working in PR, digital, news or communications team
  • Experience of online financial systems, working with procurement and payroll teams, liaising with suppliers and ensuring compliance with internal controls
  • Experience/capability and willingness to learn producing high quality internal communications campaigns that support employee engagement and cultural change
  • The ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple projects and organise others whilst maintaining enthusiasm, creativity and an eye for detail
  • Significant drive to want to be part of a team who deliver great experiences for colleagues so they can join the dots between what they do and the strategic direction of GWR during a time of industry transformation

About the location:


The post will be based in Swindon, with appropriate scope to work flexibly with a mix of work from home and out and about across the network visiting colleagues all over the business.
