Dorset Healthcare Estates and Facilities Directorate are looking to appoint a conscientious and self-motivated Assistant Estates Officer Electrical.


Working alongside the Estates Officer Electrical as well as colleagues in the building and mechanical operational teams, the Assistant Estates Officer will supply problem solving support and effective supervision of a team of Electricians and Maintenance Workers.


The team, which are based at our new office and workshop facilities in Wareham, deliver pre-planned maintenance and repair services to a variety of Trust premises across Dorset, including Community Hospitals, Health Centres, Mental Health Units and Administrative Buildings.


Whilst this is very much a working role both hands-on and office based, it should also be seen as a development role, and as part of the departments' succession plan, a programme of professional development training is in place, that will support the Assistant Estates Officers' progression towards more senior roles of the future.


The Assistant Estates Officer post comes with an added pay enhancement of £3500 pa., plus an on-call allowance currently at 4.5%, NHS Pension, 27 days leave per year plus bank holidays, flexible working arrangements, overtime paid at premium rates, a tracked vehicle (for business use only), work wear and all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).


Support the Estates Officer Electrical to encourage and develop a culture to ensure the highest levels of customer service are demonstrated by the Estates Department.

Oversee operational staff who install, service, test, diagnose and repair electrical/mechanical plant and equipment. (Participate where appropriate as required.).


Assist the Estates Officer Electrical with their responsibility for ensuring all staff are trained and developed with the appropriate skills in line with the knowledge/skills framework.


Provides coverage in the absence of other Assistant Estates Officers and Estates Officers including cross Trust working as and when required.

Support the management, organisation, coaching and mentoring of all staff

Support the Estates Officer Electrical to ensure routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM) of plant and equipment is carried out to industry standards and all associated paperwork kept up to date, including ordering spare parts as required


Supervise staff including:

  • Allocation of duties
  • Health and wellbeing support/sickness/absence
  • Annual leave
  • First level conduct and capability matters.
Holding and maintaining a full UK (United Kingdom) driving licence is an essential requirement.
