Civil Service HR (CSHR)

Casework Consultant:

Role A**The main responsibilities of the post are:
  • Delivering a customer
  • focused service by providing complete, accurate and timely professional expert HR advice, coaching and supporting managers at all levels.
  • Improving manager confidence and capability by coaching them through challenging workplace issues on an individual basis or delivering bespoke upskilling events.
  • Supporting and handling Employment Tribunal claims, liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Occupational Health, Government Legal department, investigators, mediators), attending Employment Tribunals where required.

HR Mediation and Investigation Service (HRMIS)-HR Investigator: Role B**This is a high-profile role where the vacancy holder will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to show resilience due to the nature of the work involved.


Your success in this role will be based on your ability to conduct investigations in a professional and timely manner as well as the ability to articulate and write up reports concisely, in line with DWP Policies.

You will join a team of investigators and will be given one on one training. If you are not mediation trained this may be a possibility for the future

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Managing a caseload of Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination investigations.
  • Gathering evidence and Interviewing all parties in the complaint.
  • Preparing investigation reports to the required high standard in line with DWP Policy.
  • Providing Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination advice and supporting employees via e mail.
  • Operating a Speak Up Safely telephone service and providing advice to employees.
  • Working flexibly and collaboratively both internally in the investigation team and across the whole casework team adapting quickly to changing / evolving business priorities.
  • Working closely and developing great working relationships both with colleagues in HR People Services, the business and the wider People Capability and Place community as well as across other government departments and casework providers, sharing HR expertise and driving forward improvement.

Desirable Skills:

  • Ability to write up investigation interviews concisely, in line with DWP Policy and ability to explain your rational.
- excellent Interviewing skills (all employees/all grades).


Person specification:


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to get to the heart of serious and complex issues and simplify them, demonstrate judgement to make sound decisions about recommended options/course of action and tailoring communications appropriately.
  • Ability to analyse and challenge complex information and identify the potential risks associated with different courses of action to ensure advice given is sound and in line with current practices and do this at pace.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective trust based working relationships with a range of diverse and demanding internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of effective business outcomes whilst giving full consideration to opposing views.
  • Ability to work to competing deadlines, producing accurate wellthoughtout communications which are adapted to suit customer needs and provide the relevant information clearly and concisely.
  • Effectively manage and prioritise high caseload to meet demanding timescales.
