Job Description & Person


Role Overview:


Working within the council's Cemetery and Crematorium Service, you will lead a highly driven team to ensure funerals are accommodated as requested and cemeteries are maintained to a high specification.


Key Responsibilities:


  • To lead and manage the Cemetery Operative
  • Grave Digging team.
  • To undertake all duties involved in burials.
  • Carry out the necessary tasks to ensure high quality grounds maintenance.
  • To be available to meet and assist the public in all the Borough's cemeteries.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively advise and support the public, with confidence to assist in cemetery queries.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills will be needed to work individually and leading a team to ensure a high service delivery for the residents of Oldham.
  • Previous experience with cemetery work and the use of mechanical plant and tools. The post requires work to be completed in inclement weather and possible unsociable hours (weekends).
