    About the Role

    A Consenter-Biobanker position has become available in the Translational Gastroenterology Unit, Nuffield Department of Medicine, Oxford. This position involves consenting patients into the Oxford Gastrointestinal (GI) Cohort and collecting samples from endoscopy, surgery and clinics, within the gastroenterology department and wider cancer community.

    The aim of this position, within the TGU Biobanking team, will be to collate clinical data, human tissue and medical imaging to support research scientists across the Medical Sciences Division. The position will support our ambitions to give patients an opportunity to take part in translational research in the future. The key duties are listed below and will require some manual handling. Full training will be provided.

    The post will involve interaction with patients awaiting standard medical tests, undertaking informed consent of amenable participants, the collection of tissue during the medical procedure and the curation and documentation of accrued data, image and tissue resources. These resources may be used for selected studies within the TGU, national and international studies, or will be banked for future use. You will routinely liaise with a wide range of contacts related to the Oxford GI Cohort, including:
    • Academics and management staff that coordinate the Oxford GI Cohort
    • Members of the Biobank Team
    • Members of other Biobank Teams in Oxford (e.g. OCHRe)
    • Patients
    • Members of the clinical teams – nursing, surgical, pathology.

    About You

    You will have good level of education and numerical skills: minimum A level standard (or equivalent), or an equivalent combination of training and experience. It is desirable to have experience of working in a higher education establishment.
