This amazing SEN school, nestled in the outskirts of Exeter city centre, is dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment for secondary age pupils with a range of communication and interaction needs.

The pupils all learn at primary level.

The school boasts its very own small forest area, complete with a camping site and great facilities, offering an ideal setting for immersive outdoor education.

Additionally, they have flourishing allotments where the pupils actively participate in growing fruits and vegetables for the school kitchen, promoting a sustainable and eco-conscious approach to learning.


Job Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Forest School Lead Teaching Assistant to join the team.

As the Forest School Lead, you will be responsible for leading outdoor activities and forest school sessions for the pupils, utilising the fantastic facilities they have at their disposal.

You will play a pivotal role in creating engaging and enriching experiences, fostering a love for nature and learning in the students.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead and organise forest school sessions, gardening activities, and other outdoor learning experiences.
  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate activities that cater to the diverse needs of our pupils.
  • Collaborate with the teaching staff to integrate outdoor learning opportunities into the curriculum.
  • Provide support and assistance to students with communication and interaction needs during outdoor activities.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment for all pupils.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing feedback and reporting to the teaching team.
  • Contribute to the development of individualised learning plans and behaviour management strategies.

Requirements:


  • Proven experience as an SEN support worker, preferably with secondary age pupils.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in forest school education and gardening.
  • Passionate about outdoor learning and naturebased activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt and tailor activities to suit individual learning needs.
  • Patient, empathetic, and understanding approach towards students with communication and interaction needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or outdoor education are advantageous.
