Trainee Operative to join our Utilities, South-West Water team.

In this role, you will be working on our Southwest Water contract, where we work on repairs and maintenance services to provide reliable, efficient, and high-quality drinking water and wastewater services.


In the role of Trainee Operative, you will be a part of a close-knit team and will work closely with another experienced team member.

Together, you will venture out to local areas, actively participating in a variety of schemes, including all stages of excavation works on site.

With experience and provided training, you have the potential to progress to the role of Lead Water Technician, where you can take on greater responsibilities and further develop your skills in the field.

Based from our depot in Exeter


Contract:
Permanent - Full Time


Salary:

Weekly paid with a basic salary of £ £12.50 per hour (dependant on experience) with the potential to significantly increase your take-home package with standby, call-out, and overtime.

All hours worked on standby will be paid at x 1.9 (£ £23.75) overtime rates vary between x x 1.9 shift and day dependant.

Standby payments are additional (not hourly) at £20-£45 and call out from £10-£40.


Responsibilities


The role of Trainee Operative/Labourer will be field based, and you will be reporting daily to your team leader while upholding Kier's standards of health and safety, quality of work and productivity.


You will be expected to:

  • Manual labour in setting up site, excavating, preparing and installing water fittings
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is updated on each job using a tablet
  • Be a part of a rapid response team that works around the clock to deliver and restore clean water

Who are we looking for?
No experience required

  • Hold a valid Full Drivers Licence
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions


  • Willingness to upskill

  • Comprehensive training will be provided
