The main purpose of the role is to undertake duties within a multidiscipline Engineering Design Office.
All work is carried out under the direct supervision of the Design Services Manager/ Design Team leader Design Engineer/Design Draughtsperson.
Main responsibilities
Duties & Work Based Learning
- Preparation and maintenance of a detailed training log based on the requirements of Sparrows
- Apprenticeship scheme. It is the incumbent's responsibility to ensure that all required skills are obtained during the training period by holding regular review meetings with their Design Team leader
- Production of general arrangement, detail, procedural and system schematic drawings using various
- Preparation of bills of material and purchase requisitions.
- Assist with drawing office clerical functions and be proactive in the development of drawing office systems improvement initiatives.
- Checking of drawings and data.
- Carrying out site dimensional surveys and reporting.
- Preparations of basic calculations for weld/bolt/member selection.
- The incumbent must attend Further Education to follow a recognised course of study leading to H.N.C. in Mechanical Engineering. This training will be strengthened by onthejob training by fully qualified
- Complete a preorganised rotation of all required departments to gain an appreciation of other department processes and procedures.
- Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, management, team members and other colleagues.
- Work cooperatively and productively with others to ensure planning, technical integrity and successful completion of projects.
- Actively contribute to meetings and discussions.
- Assist with the development of team systems and working methods.
- Work within limits of financial authority as dictated by company policy.
- Work to agreed quality standards.
- Identify variations from quality standards and recommend improvements.
- Attend, and actively participate in, all training provided by company, whether internally or externally provide
- Carry out continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of responsibility.
- Adopt a cooperative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed.
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity in dealing with people and use behaviour and language which is appropriate for the workplace.
HSEQ responsibilities
- It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
- The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under countryspecific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.
Qualifications and experience
- The incumbent must hold the appropriate qualifications to enrol in a H.N.C. course in Mechanical engineering.
- Higher mathematics, or NC Mechanical Engineering (SCQF Level 6), or
HNC:
Pre entry Mechanical Engineering.
