    This post will be on average 11.5 PAs a week, with 1.5 PA will be available for continuing professional development.

    Sessions are not fixed and will cover theatres and potentially the obstetric unit and intensive care unit (subject to the post holder's experience), as necessary to cover service need. Surgical specialities at Russells Hall Hospital include vascular surgery, general surgery, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ENT, urology, gynaecology and ophthalmic surgery.

    Main duties of the job

  • The normal working day will consist of covering clinical sessions from 08:00 to 18:00 (including pre and post-operative clinical care).
  • Daytime sessions will cover theatres and potentially the obstetric unit or intensive care unit, as per rota and according to experience and service need. The weekly rota is managed and communicated through CLWRota, a commercial rostering app.
  • Be expected to participate in all departmental activities, including audit, sharing the administrative responsibilities and contributing to the further development of the department.
  • There are no oncall commitments with this post, however, with an influx of new starter pre-IAC anaesthetic trainees who do not participate in the on-call rota between August and November each year, oncall cover could be expected between this period. These can be based on critical care, obstetrics, or theatres as mutually agreeable.
  • Be required to take an active part in clinical governance, ensuring that his/her practice conforms to evidence/research based practice.

    Essential criteria

  • MBChB or equivalent qualification
  • Full registration with General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practice
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge and Training

    Essential criteria

  • Minimal four years recent anaesthetics experience
  • ALS provider status
  • Desirable criteria

  • Obstetric and Critical Care experience
  • APLS/EPLS
  • Audit and Research

    Essential criteria

  • Evidence of active and consistent engagement with clinical audit +/- QIP
