Role Overview


Support the Leading Steward in providing a comprehensive on-board retail and catering service that enables the Company to achieve its customer and business objectives.


Functional Responsibilities/Key Tasks

  • Attend to customer needs and be responsive to their requests.
  • Assist in the provision of the retail service to a standard that enables the Company to achieve its customer and business objectives.
  • Adhere to onboard Retail Operations procedures, maintain stocking policies and merchandise layout plans.
  • Attend onboard departmental meetings with the head of the department to discuss current performance and financial targets.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in customer service and retail sales and discuss with the Leading Steward.
  • Adhere to the Company's cash control, stock control and fiscal security procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to Food Hygiene practices and procedures.
  • Adhere to local safe systems of work, safety training and compliance with current legislation.
  • Report any issues either physical or operational that may be detrimental to achieving the company's customer and business objectives.
  • Undertake emergency response duties as required.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Leading Steward.
  • Undertake other relevant duties as directed by the Master of the vessel.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  • Good written, verbal and communication skills
  • Customer service experience gained in a catering or retail environment
  • ENG1 medical certificate (no limitations)
  • Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate
  • The following STCW 2010 certification
  • Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting
  • Personal Survival Techniques
  • Elementary First Aid
  • Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
  • Security Awareness
  • Crowd Management
  • Crisis Management

Decision Making Authority/Prime Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the provision of a high quality, cost effective and responsive onboard catering and retail service to customers and crew.
  • Adhere to the Company's cash control, stock control and fiscal security procedures.
  • Understand and adhere to all Health & Safety and Food Hygiene legislation.

Regular And Major Problems to Be Resolved:

  • Be proactive and anticipate customer needs and be responsive when dealing with customer requests.
  • Be adaptable and prepared to assist in any area of the onboard Retail Operations undertakings.
  • Carry out gangway duties in the specified manner.
