    You will be part of our dedicated and friendly team at our Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel.

    About the role of Kitchen Manager:

    • Supervise and coordinate the work of kitchen colleagues, cooks etc to ensure a smooth workflow and adequate staffing levels in kitchen at all times
    • Train new kitchen colleagues on food preparation techniques, safety procedures and kitchen guidelines
    • Oversee food production to maintain quality standards, consistency, taste and portion size
    • Develop and update menus in collaboration with Hostel and Operations Managers taking into consideration guest preferences and cost effectiveness
    • Place orders for food supplies and kitchen equipment ensuring timely delivery, proper storage etc
    • Control food costs by monitoring stock levels, minimising waste and optimising portion size
    • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen as per Cooksafe Guidlines
    • Perform administrative tasks such as record keeping, budget management, colleague training and performance reviews
    • Take the role of cook as required preparing all food and drinks to standard
    • Demonstrate understanding of food safety and hygiene practices and evidence of appropriate qualification
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards, quality and cleanliness
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor the kitchen team
    Flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays as is required


    • Be able to demonstrate great knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment and food safety and hygiene techniques
    • Have excellent organisational and time management ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
