Field Communications Specialist - Contract
Job Summary
Leading the improvement of our field communication estate of two-way radio and VoIP the post holder will deliver projects to improve the technology solution and service for event first aid teams and ambulance crews.
Working closely with the volunteer teams they will support them to help build the capabilities required to effectively manage the solutions building documentation and procedures to ensure no risk of single points of dependency.
Key Responsibilities
- Discover, plan and deliver the field communications technology needs for events and ambulance operations.
- Audit and catalogue existing radio solutions utilising the configuration management database.
- Enable best value and geographic equity of availability of technology working closely with partner teams such as logistics.
- Assess the gaps in the existing solution and recommend where investment is needed.
- Provide technical leadership to the incumbent team of volunteers who support and manage the solution.
- Build a knowledge base of the incumbent team working practises to ensure procedures are documented with single points of dependence reduced.
- Contribute to building a future strategy for fieldbased communications based on surfacing the requirements for the charity.
- Work to existing technology team standards
- Manage the transition of the existing volunteer team into Technology.
- Assist with the recruitment process for sourcing employed team members.
- Source and manage third party suppliers.
- Perform any other duties commensurate with these responsibilities, the band of the post and skills and qualifications of the postholder.
Important things you need to know -
- Working a 35hour week with options to work; remote within UK, from our office in London or hybrid options
- If working remotely, be able to travel to our office in London once per month or as needed for team and project meetings.
- Willing to travel to offsite meetings with customers and suppliers with occasional overnight stays.
- Able to work unsociable hours occasionally to support project delivery, quality assurance or essential maintenance.
Requirements:
A minimum of five years of field communications experience.
Working with Technology teams wirthin frameworks such as ITIL.
Management of supply chain
Working with stakeholders of all levels to understand complex issues or requirements for solutions.
Working with an ITSM/ITIL tool for managing and recording work
Working within solution delivery environments using agile and waterfall methodologies
Working within cross-functional teams to solve incidents or deliver high profile project work
Product knowledge configuring, developing and maintaining two-way radio (Kenwood NX, ICOM, Airwaves)
Knowledge or understanding of VoIP.
Project management
Supply chain management inclusive of contracts and negotiation
Gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements
Developing technical options and delivering solutions to meet business requirements.
Performing quality assurance of new solutions
Change management.
Creating and maintaining technical documentation and schematics
Desirable
ITIL Foundation certified.
Recognised network qualification.
Working in a volunteer-based charity or healthcare organisation
Knowledge or understanding of local area networks.
