Overview:

Buckinghamshire Council has a brilliant opportunity for a
Tax Advisor to join us


The Tax Advisor will support the Senior Financial Accountant to deliver VAT and Taxation compliance and advisory service and financial control and data integrity for the Council.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate with directorates across the Council and external partners to deliver the financial statutory reporting and control environment for the second biggest Unitary Council.

About us:


The Financial Control and Accounting team plays a vital role in ensuring the financial data integrity and the control environment is robust through review and maintenance of Chart of Accounts and balance sheet management.

The team is led by the Chief Accountant supported by qualified and part-qualified accountants.


The team provides VAT and Taxation advice to the wider organisation and ensures timely completion of Vat returns and compliances with the HMRC regulations.

Responsible for co-ordination and consolidation of statutory financial reporting, external audit process and formulating and implementation of Treasury Strategy.


About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, some of the key responsibilities are summarised below:

  • Providing VAT and Taxation advice and guidance to wider organisation
  • Preparation of VAT returns and ensuring VAT compliance
  • Calculating and monitoring partial exemption.
  • Identifying potential tax planning opportunities to increase revenue or reduce tax liabilities, e.g. Option to tax
  • Managing the relationship with HMRC and assisting them with any enquiries
  • Execute Collection Fund activities including setting Council Tax Base; Surplus/deficit, NNDR, regular reconciliations and yearend accounting.

Any-Desk:


As an 'any-desk' worker, you'll need to be connected to our network to access digital folders and resources, but this can either be from home or an office location when required.

You will be required to work from the office a couple of times a week, depending on your role and team requirements*.

The Council is currently operating a hybrid working model, with an expectation that staff are in the office an average of 2 days per week for meetings and collaborative activities, with the remainder working from home.
